I own a 99 Sentra SE-L and it is time for me to replace my spark plug wires. I have read that the OEM ones are really good, but I am considering aftermarket brands. Anyone else with a 98 or 99 Sentra SE who can give some advise? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Don't own a 98 or 99, but I use the NGK wires. Unfortunately, one held onto the plug so tightly that it ripped itself apart as I was removing it one day. Other than that I've been pleased with them. They aren't stupid expensive either.

You will be happy with stock, they are the best as far as im concerned. You will most likely not see any improvement with aftermarket wires, some may even hinder your performance and cause bad driveability.

The dealer said that there are 2 brand of OEM wires. Anyone else run into this? It shouldn't matter should it?

Yup, OEM wires are the ones to use unless your getting into big HP numbers. I had the NGK wires. Once they are on, they don't come off without coming apart. They were shyte! I noticed no difference with them so they now live in a land fill some where. Magnercors are good and a lot more durable then NGKs. I went with the BEA DIING wires from Focus or Top Speed. They are blue with a black thing on them that is not a "cap" as I am told, but some system that keeps the spark energy from traveling back... etc... Something like that. All I know is that I get a hot spark even on cold plugs (can tell from color of tip), and I can feel the difference. They are solid core and very very durable. They do require some creativity to mount. I noticed my friends with turbo cars felt a very noticable difference with them on.

I have NGK also, never had a problem and very please. I have not experience the coming off apart deal, (I'm hoping never either).

I have Magnecor 8.5mm wires and have been very pleased with them. I'm not sure if they are better than OEM wires, but they have been great wires so far. 27,000 miles.

Magnecor 8.5. Don't expect crazy hp gains. Best you would probably get is 1/4 hp if anything out of it. It is the ignition that you don't need to change.

What about Arospeed 9.2 mm wires?

god dont get those aerospeed wires. you can ask John(project200sx) on how crappy they are. we pulled them off on friday when the car was running, when we put them back on, it wouldnt fire. put stock wires on it fired right up. they are the crappiest wires ive ever seen. they barely click on the plugs. i mean you could barely pull them and they would come unpluged. unless you are going over 250whp there is no need for anything beyond the stock wires. most the time people "upgrade" their wires then run into some driveablity issues or even nonstarting issues like john. i dont think its worth it get stock screw if they are blue/red/yellow. i will give up that 20hp gain you get with yellow or red wires, my car is slow already why worry how slow i might make it. :p

Is it safe to color stock wires though? The only thing i like about Arospeed is they come with different cute colors lol.

Is there something wrong with your plug wires? Why would you need to replace them?

sounds like its about tune up time anyway so why not. but they do have classic wires at courtsey cause i orderd some like a year or two ago. probaly just listed different.

dont color the wires, best thing to do is the rice split loom on them. dont try painting them or something just put some wire covers on them.

Now I run Accels when I want it to look good and OE wires when I need it to run good. :)

To answer your question, I am replacing my plug wires because it is about time for a tune up. As far as general maintenance goes, I like to get things done a little early. It probably doesn't make a difference to do so, but I guess it makes me feel like I'm taking better care of it. Do ya know what I mean? This car is my baby.
