: help from andreas, and other turbo sellers/buyers..
Monsoon 05-09-2002, 09:45 PM i didn't know where to post this, and i couldn't find andreas's exact name to pm him about it, so i just decided to post it here. if you can find a thread relating to my questions, or know the peoples names so i can pm them, please do so and just close this thread so i waste no space. :)
anyways, i was curious as to what a average price on a complete t25 or t28 turbo setup will go for. by complete, i mean everything i'll need to get the thing up and running. just the basic kit.
also, what would be in this kit. what things should i look for, etc. reason i ask is because i have a decent sum coming within a month or two, and i have all summer break to make money. i'm very serious about getting a turbo setup, so please don't trash me or give me bad information to go by. like i said, if you can direct me in the right direction via a thread or a person to pm, please feel free to do so and close this thread. i'm new to this area. ;)
thanks.
jnk5y 05-09-2002, 11:29 PM It all depends on what your goals are. Whenever you start a project you should have a set of goals you would like to reach. It shouldn't be just turbo and that's.
1)what kind of horsepower are you looking for?
2)do you want to leave room for improvement?
3)how much are you willing to spend?
There are other things that i can't remember.
Also when you do the mod remember to set a goal every day you work on it. Good luck.
DubuRX 05-09-2002, 11:35 PM Try PM'ing "Andreas Miko" or "TurbochargedSER"
They should be able to help out!!
CowboyDren 05-10-2002, 02:37 AM Ryan, let's get together for some coffee some time. I have spread sheets. :D

lol, that works. email me with a place and a time, and i'll try to work something out. i'm busy on saturday from 7am till whenever i get done with the handwax challenge at work. probably mid-day.
1)what kind of horsepower are you looking for?
basically to start out with i just want the normal sr20det area horsepower of 200 ponies. with a t25 or t28, that's what i should expect correct?
2)do you want to leave room for improvement?
well of course i do. really my main goal would be 250 crank horsepower, and that's all i'd need. with a tight budget like mine, it's really just leaving it to the basic mods. i have a cold air intake right now, so i'd like to apply that to the turbo setup. i'd add a 2.5" or 3" exhaust system, a nice down pipe, and that's pretty much it. if that doesn't get me up to 250 crank ponies (more than likely it won't), i'm more than satisfied with what that will get me. it's more than enough for a 17 year old, trust me.
3)how much are you willing to spend?
hrm, i'd have to set my limit to 2 grand as that's probably all i'll have by the end of summer assuming everything goes like i hope for. of course, i really doubt it will. :)
CowboyDren 05-10-2002, 01:49 PM Well, a DET engine with a good boost controller can approach 230 at the wheels, but that's absolutely maxing your budget (actually about $50 over in parts alone). A T28/GTi-R manifold, FMIC, injectors, and an ECU would be a lot closer to your budget; but wouldn't be as safe.
I'd call HS and F-Max and find out what their Bluebird pipe/IC kits cost. The difference between a BB and a GTi-R compressor location can't be so big that the pipe kits wouldn't fit, so I'd start there. I think I saw somewhere that F-Max was $900? Figure $400 for a GTi-R manifold and a T25 or a T28 (shopped carefully), and $600 for an ECU to run it all. You still need injectors, though...we're getting very close to two grand already, too...
Turbos ain't cheap, bro, but you know that Rick, Brad, Dave, and myself can't wait to start one of these projects locally. Ryan may even be able to get you some garage space, but that'd be in Lawrence, wouldn't it? ;) Nevermind me...this is asstalk.

that's quite interesting as i saw turbo kits in the for sale forum a couple months ago (advertised as "complete") going for like $900. that's not including the jwt ecu, but that includes the plumbing, turbo, i'm assuming the manifold, and the injectors. ohh, and whatever else comes along for the ride. ;)
i'm still very new on these setups, but i have all summer to learn about them.
CowboyDren 05-11-2002, 11:41 PM I'll tell you this; buying stuff like that is more likely to cause a headache than induce boost, especially for folks that haven't done it before. Ever wonder why you see so many piecemeal kits are for sale? Often because the person who pulled the pieces together couldn't get the install right. ;)

i pmed serprise to get a good account for the parts i'll need, and the cost, and his setup cost $2,000. that's everything, and a 3" exhaust system included in the price. so it's not going to be insanely high. :)
