: Turbo Timers
Soopastank 05-10-2002, 01:47 PM Im currently using my alarm as my turbo timer. ( Remote Start ) Im thinking that i'd be better off just getting a real turbo timer. My buddy has one of the new Blitz units in his WRX and it reads of Engine temp. It also has a setting to show Engine temp on the display. Whats everybody using? Also is anyone using theres in conjuction with a alarm with stater disable? If so how did you get them to work together?
CowboyDren 05-10-2002, 02:08 PM Lots of turbo timers have really cool features, like the HKS my buddy had on a Supra had a voltage function. Mounted on top of his steering wheel, that feature alone made the turbo timer indespensible when he was on an electrical bug-hunt.
The basic idea is just to fool your ECU and hard circuits into thinking that there's a key in the switch and at the Run position when in fact there isn't, and then remove that imaginary key after a set amount of time. I think that a turbo timer is kind of a turbo timer; I really don't think that one is going to get along with your security system any better than any others.
Pick one that has the features you want and fits your budget, but I'd stick with a big brand. :)
Soopastank 05-11-2002, 01:37 AM Dang with all these Turbo SE-R's?
CowboyDren 05-11-2002, 01:52 AM There are several, they just haven't replied. ;) Dr. Lew used a GReedy model, and I pointed out those instructions to another guy just a few days ago. I don't think his 200SX has a fancy security system, though.
DubuRX 05-11-2002, 04:02 AM Wish I could help, but my Greddy unit has yet to be installed(as well as the rest of my turbo stuff). You could always just chill for 3 minutes as you sit back and ponder the power of your turbo pimp ride!!
PSSSHHHGOESMYSR20 05-11-2002, 06:08 AM I had the HKS type O and let me tell you, that thing was awesome. It had a Manual funtion, and an Auto function that I absolutley loved. It would count Up or count down depending on how hard you drove your car, and the RPMs it saw. It was so tight. Unfortunately it was stolen along with other things. but this turn around I may get it again or I may go after the new one from APEXi.
91DE+T 05-11-2002, 06:48 AM I have a very basic silver Greddy unit. It runs two selectable times. I run a very short time for in town daily driving, and a 3 minute program for highway blasts. For track days I can run it as long as 10 minutes. It may have some other features, but I lost the manual. Please help, the happy song it plays when I start the car and when it counts down is driving me crazy :( Otherwise it is nice, cheap ($90), and basic.
art_from_ct 05-12-2002, 10:53 AM PSSSHHHGOESMYSR20 :
I am going to be using the HKS Type O Turbo Timer, unfortunetly my unit didn't come with English instructions, ( I can't read Japanese !). Is there somewhere I could find these instructions in english?
Thanks,
Wicked R 05-13-2002, 01:31 AM 91DE+T...
I have the instructions for the Greddy turbo timer if you need them... I can rea from it how to turn off the chime and crap... I dont have mine hooked up as I'm afraid to overlap my alarm and really screw shit up... but tell me what you need and I'll post it for you...

AntonioG 05-13-2002, 11:34 AM Irwin, what's wrong w/ the remote turn-off alarm as a turbo timer? It's the same basic concept right, or am I just missing something.
I have an older Blitz turbo timer, but have no idea how to hook it up either. Anyone got those instructions lying around?
Thanks!
92SE-R 05-13-2002, 03:49 PM I need instructions for my HKS Type 0 too. ANy help would be much appreciated.
Rockwood 05-13-2002, 06:49 PM wiring a turbo timer to your 91-94 Sentra
these wires are found under your ignition, take off the interior trim under the steering wheel to access these.
connect them to the corresponding wires on your turbo timer
constant(battery)=white
ignition=black w/ red stripe
ground=if you dont know where to find this i will kick you in the teeth!
AC=white w/ blue stripe
ACC (Accessory)=white w/ blue stripe

YMMV

It works but in order to remote start the car I have to turn it off. I know the car is only off for a few seconds. But I'd feel more comfortable just having it continue to run right after I pull the key out. Plus from what im understanding the newer Turbo Timers have a Auto mode that will automatically adjust how long the car has to idle...due to how you've driven the car. ( I guess some keep record of how you've been boosting and others go off of Temp???? ) Depending on how much of a pain in the ass its going to be to have my alarm and the TT work together I might just keep things the way that they are.
Rockwood 05-13-2002, 06:53 PM i will dig up my HKS engrish instructions.
Rockwood 05-13-2002, 08:15 PM the HKS sees the amount of interference from the dist goes through the ACC wiring (the same feedback you get through your stereo, this is the same interference that allows monster tachs to work despite not having an output on the ECU for a tach) and detects RPM, not boost, load or temp. i have sat, cruising, at 5000+ rpm and watched the timer climb. one drawback is that it doesnt see short bursts WOT bursts (say 1-3) enough to adjust the timer accordingly. if you do this, you can easily push the 1 or 3 minute (or whatever you personally want to set it to) preset to time it down properly.

Thank you. I would really like to turn the chime and startup song off. Also, I think I have figured out the P-1 and P-2 features, but what are the A modes used for.

I totally forgot to bring the book home with me tonight... I will most definately remember tmw... and I'll post step by step procedures straight from the manual for you... ;)
92SE-R 05-14-2002, 02:01 AM What's the AC wire? :( I can't think of it. Am I brainfarting?
Rockwood 05-14-2002, 03:09 AM sorry, ACC, accessory signal. you know, stereo, etc.
not totally necesary, but nice if you want the full auto feature to work
MauiBlueGride 05-14-2002, 06:34 AM Soopastank, most remote starts have a stop-N-Go feature, where you can hit a certain combo of buttons once stopped (but the car running) and then take the key out and it will stay running....
On my DEI alarms I think it was just hitting the remote start keys while it was running, and on my Ungo stuff its holding the brake down while hitting the arm button.
I came up with a circuit once to use my remote start to trigger a timer and then kill it (count down began when the negative when running wire lit up, after set time it sent a positive 12v signal to the brake light wire which killed the remote start).
I'll have to see if I can dig that up....
Chris
