Mustang Dyno'd the Daily Driver!
*** 2" HS Gen3 vs 2.5" SSAC Dyno Data (+ more) ***

Well, I know I'm N/A but... The results are in!!!
Well, since I had never dyno'd my car before... and since tons of people wanted to get before/after dynos for the newer SSAC header, I figured I would kill two birds with one stone and take my car to a local shop to get a base dyno done. I have a 2.5" SSAC sitting in my closet that I will hopefully get on soon to replace my old school HS Gen 3... Here are my specs & results.

EDIT: (6/21/07)
Dyno Scheduled for 6/21/07 - Changes: S3r's and CAI instead of WAI... We'll see... :eek2:

EDIT: (12/27/06)
Please check new results and video's below... ;)

The Car:
1998 SE-R w/ JDM Roller Rocker Swap from a Primera (Original DE spun a bearing)

Current Mods:
Full Mod List: http://sr20forum.com/showpost.php?p=1415772&postcount=2

Basically its just...
---Injen WAI (I took off the CAI Extension since winter is coming up)
---JWT Pop Charger (Stock Overemmisioned '98 ECU though)
---Hotshot Gen 3 Header (Thermocoated by me)
---VRS 2.5" Stainless Cat-Back (Stock Cat, w/ 14" Magnaflow Res, Magnaflow Muffler)
---Outlaw Engineering Thermoblock Spacers
---Thundervolt 50 Ignition Wires
Here's a shot from today... Finally...

Dyno & Other info:
---Mustang Dynometer (Product #: MD-IMP-SE) using Powerdyne Software
---Curb weight inputted was 2586lb's
---All runs were in 4th Gear
---Told him to Stop Testing at about 6.8k (RR and I don't really rev that high)
---Hood remained closed for each run...

Results???: (Check Post #2 for Graphs/Videos)
147whp 129ft-lb @ the wheels w/ Hotshot Gen 3
143whp 125ft-lb @ the wheels w/ Hotshot Gen 3

EDIT: (12/27/06)
154whp 136ft-lb @ the wheels w/ 2.5" SSAC
153whp 135ft-lb @ the wheels w/ 2.5" SSAC

I was hoping for around 150 whp so I was pretty happy w/ what I saw. Not that bad for stock cams and minor bolt ons... stock pulleys, stock flywheel, and cams. I'm glad I went... now I have baseline info for later. It kept climbing which was wierd because I always thought that Roller motors had their peak power at 5.5k... but it kept climbing past 6.5k. I kind of regret not asking him to pull to redline.

EDIT: (12/27/06)Well after waiting almost two weeks I finally got in to dyno again w/ the 2.5" SSAC swapped on. The results are posted up above. I yielded a 7whp gain, and a 7ft-lb gain with the new header. The same dyno was used indoor and the same mode was used twice. All the runs were done in 4th gear again... This time w/ the help of TUNED200 on the forum I was able to get a 1/4 mile run in and a 0-60mph run as well. With the simulation I was able to run a 15.04 second pass w/ a 95.02mph trap. (but it is only a simulation)The graphs are pretty consistent, and the gains were pretty consistent across the board. I will see if I can get a dynograph printed w/ all the runs combined next week. The best thing about it is I have video footage off all the runs and all the simulations... only bad part is I hit my Speed Governor... so no results past 6.7k in 4th.

My graph's are pretty crappy because I scanned them at work, but I will post them in the second post. I'll post the video's as well! I'd like to discuss them with yall... I wanted to discuss a few things about my powerband.

And lastly... I hit my speed governor in all my runs :( so Fuel Cut Owns me... YRMV :eek2:

great numbers man...................i was thinking that would be the numbers u get with that set-up. So your prooly say 160 something to the crank????

that motor is rated at 140hp right just like the original de right???

that ssac header should give u some more top end kick.........Get that on soon so we can see the diff

I bet with the 2.5 you will lose HP. Since you are on stock cams, pulleys, etc. We shall see though. My dad and I have the same mods he just got a 2.5 we will do a nice side by side action and find out.

i'm pretty sure the rollers were rated at 145. great numbers for bolt ons dood. plus i'm pretty sure u would have picked up a couple of HP with the full CAI set-up installed. u plan on cams or anything bigger in the future?

WAI = Warm Air Intake

Same as short ram...filter picks up "warm" air from within the engine bay vs CAI that picks up "cold" air by the wheel outside the car.

Oh shiyit I forgot... My timing is at like 18-19* and I'm running Shell V-Power (93 Octane and Mobil 1 Premium...)

Those are some good numbers. Put cams in and you'll see 160whp+.

Well my initial plans were to purchase another car first before I do anything else major... on a side note I have been bogarting on yall... :) I have had a t25 setup from an Avenir chilling in my closet. I've been debating for like 3 months on what to do... I have been talking to a few closer friends on here about what I want to do in the future, but if you know me, its going to be planned out pretty well.

I have put together an excel spreadsheet w/ estimates on cost/budget, and I've done pretty good. I have everything I need except for I haven't sent my extra obdII ecu out yet because I'm sitting on the fence :squint:

S3R's are definetely something I have been considering.

As far as the dyno graphs:
Anyone know why I have such a dip from 2k to about 4.5k in my tq readings? It is like an 8ft-lb drop and then it climbs back up... Its consistent, and I was thinking it could be an issue w/ timing? Is it because I'm using a 98 DE Intake mani instead of the JDM one? Is this normal?

I experienced no advantages... The only advantage I have is that during the crappy weather (heavy rain & wet snow) down here I won't have to worry about getting water in my intake. Its just for safety sake really.

There are a lot of first hand data on the boards about this subject... Personally, and keep in mind that this is my own personal experience; I think that my CAI "felt" more powerful. Before I took the CAI extension off for winter I noticed the car was more responsive down low. With just regular acceleration @ full throttle my car would "break loose" and screech tires (well at least one tire) when it hit 5k in first gear. Up top the car felt very strong... After I installed the pop charger and switched to a WA setup it felt weaker. Not sure why, but it just did.

Thats just my personal experience. It just felt better w/ the extension on... If it weren't for this shitty weather I would have kept it the way it was. I wonder what my results would have been if I did. Oh well...
