Is this a necessary part? The car I bought has a DTM muffler on it. However, one of the pipes between the cat coverter and it are leaking. I was told that the pipe between the muffler and the cat would cost $190 because of that resonator. I know that if I eliminate that part, the exhaust will be louder. My question is, how much louder? Can I buy one from Summit Racing, cheap?
Thoughts?
Thanks!

EAR BLEEDING LOUD!!!!
I made the mistake of trying to go without one.
shumax, I swear to God that I wanted to die.
I did not want to drive my car EVER!!!
Of course, this was with a Racing muffler also.
But my ears would hurt and I would cringe everytime I had to slow down or speed up. I went a week without one. Just be sure to get a porforated one not a louvered one.

It really depends on your Muffler. My Sebring is fine without the resonater/mid-muffler. But that is my opinion. Just as long as my car doesn't sound like it has a buzzing fart can.

A basic Thrush glasspack will work fine as a resonator and only cost $15. You shouldn't have to spend more than $100 to have a shop bent a new pipe for you, weld the resonator (glasspack) in and bolt it up.
Do some research on the forums and see that it can be done a lot cheaper.

Curt--
I just installed a custom 3" exhaust on my car today. I used the Dynomax Race Bullet muffler as a resonator. It's basically a glasspack muffler. $35 through Summit, btw.
Listen to Figgy...I can only imagine what the drone would be like on an SR20 without the resonator in there. I believe him when he says he honestly wanted to die.
Whatever you do...get some form of perforated (not louvered) glasspack muffler in there as a resonator. Any exhaust shop should weld it up for you, no problem.
Good luck.

I had a custom 2.25-inch cat-back made from stainless. I used a 22 or 24 inch Dynomax Thrush glasspack from Summit Racing (around $20 in 2000) as a resonator between the Catco cat and the Dynomax Ultraflo muffler. I LOVE the sound of this exhaust system. Very quiet until I get above 4000 or 4500 rpm, then it sounds great.

got a question.... is louvered like what our factory resonators are, *** they seem to not work very well. just put on a PS header and dam what an annoying sound diference.
was wondering if putting on a different resonator would make the noise a beautiful tone again like before i put the header on...i also have a aractive exhaust if anyone was wondering. thanx.
