: Need help w/ header install.
paul p 05-11-2002, 09:51 AM So i bought these headers from PNWser ----->http://www.sr20deforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15706.
The consensus is that these are early Stillen 4-2-1 pipes. I've ordered an exh-manifold and pipe to cat gaskets from Mossy, but i still need the intermediate gasket. The one that joins the two pieces while it's still 2 tubes. *** got a part number for that? Or how bout a part number for the headers themselves. I called $tillen and they were next to useless in trying to help me out. If they had shown some interest i might trace the outline if the flange and fax/e-mail to them. Best bet is to simply call them w/ part number and be done w/ it.
If this doesn't werk maybe someone could suggest a material that i can simply cut and shape to make a suitable gasket.
One thing i can say bout $tillen, their service may seem crappy (maybe too focused on their modified SUVs these days, YUK) but their headers are very high quality. Since PNWser was not sure of who made his headers he was prolly not the first owner, i will be the third owner at least. The pipes, flanges and welds show no sign of corrosion, NONE. Great stuff Maynerd, even better at a used price. =P
Peanuthead 05-11-2002, 10:37 AM If you need an installation notes here is a link to them.

Here are the parts numbers for the gaskets. If you need the steel gasket for the secondary I have one you can have. You would just have to pay shipping.
http://www.se-r.net/header_exhaust/header_install.htmlThe exhaust manifold gasket is gasaket # 14036-53J00.
The secondary gasket to use if you have a Dremel or a good punch is the steel Z gasket #20691-01P80.
The cat part is #20692-65J00.
Good luck.

If all else fails, you *could* go to your local AutoZone/PepBoys/whatever and order up some Mr. Gasket Ultra gasket material. They make a steel-mesh-lined material that is very high-temp (1,600 degrees, I believe).
Just trace an outline of the primary-secondary joint. Break out the Dremel with a reinforced cutting wheel on it, and make a gasket. That's what I did to hold me until Pacesetter could send me a factory unit.
The Mr. Gasket stuff will last for a while, but should not be looked at as a permanent solution. The factory (or the steel Z unit) will last much longer.
Just a suggestion.
paul p 05-11-2002, 11:43 AM [font=tahoma]Took a minute and did a sketch of the flange. Not to scale. =P

Cheezy ain't it.
The threads are on the upper portion, the bolts going up thru the downpipe flange. The top of the image faces the radiator.
Is this what were talking bout?
Thanx for the help.

Thanks Greg,
I am hoping to do this once and be done w/ it, my stock manifold is OK so i will not start till i have all that i need to do it right. Not to mention, i still need to order the final upgrades for this season. An HKS catback (i've read it's relatively quiet and won't drone) SS brakelines to go w/ the NX upgrade (gotta check they wont break me out of SCCA STS) and AGXs to go with the 'Weekend Warrior' group buy springs. =D
The header install i 'll wait to do at the same time as exhaust. Maybe get a Random cat just to be sure. With 123K miles and a few of those poorly tuned it may be gettin a little clogged up.

That gasket you drew looks *just* like the template I made for my Pacesetter header. Exactly.
If you're going to get a new cat (and at 123k, I highly suggest it), then take a look at the Catco models at Summit Racing. I bought my 2.5" universal one for $59.99 out the door. Cheap.
And, after 151k and numerous bottles of nitrous, my stock cat was beyond being fried. It was all but destroyed inside.
Good luck.

Peanuthead 05-11-2002, 09:37 PM Hey Greg, I have 220K+ on mine think I should replace it?:D :D
Pretty White 05-12-2002, 07:26 PM Call Stillen again and tell them you need the thick gasket for the older 4-2-1 header. Yes it is very high quality. Not as thick as the HS tubes but nice welds. I have the 2nd 4-2-1 they have so it may be different than yours. It is a very thick gasket. Or go to the dealer and get a 300ZX gasket. I hear those work too!

The answer, of course, is yes to that one. It'll wake your car up, too.
Let 'er breathe, 'nut. ;)
