An forced induction SR20VE sounds yummy right about now... I will gladly donate my car to the project. So you supply the turbo and VE and ill supply the hardwork time and car body. By donate i mean, you send me the motor and turbo and ill put it in my car :D :D . Really though has anyone attempted this yet?

This should answer your question...

An SR20VET is/was an option on the Japanese XTrail sport-ute. The "VVL" only actuated the intake cam, though. Me thinks it would take a lot of tuning to get right; possibly not worth the effort vs. a DET with Jim Wolf S3 cams and a set of adjustable sprockets. I'm a monkey, though...

A lot of tuning? How do you figure? I can't foresee any additional tuning. The benefits include optimized cams for the low and high rpm bands to help aid spool-up.

I would tell anyone considering turbocharging a VE not to waste their money. Why do it? You can get just as big a thrill turbcharging a DE and still have the same effect. A VE is to give an added advantage to those normally aspirated folks.

On the other hand, I am working on turbocharging my VE right now. Why? Well for one thing I spun a bearing and I figure if I going to rebuild the bottom end I might as well do it right. And secondly, I just got finished turbocharging my buddies SI yesterday and it is so much fun I need a turbo of my own.

LOL - do as I say not as I do!

Did you spin a bearing on your VE or your De??

Wow, you spun a bearing already, did you just get it done??

Yeah I spun a bearing on the VE. Right off the bat less than 300 miles and two weeks driving.

Oh DAMN Chuck, sorry to hear that! How's the crank, you gonna get away with a simple bearing swap? Did the motor have a problem from the start, or was it (shudder to think) run low on oil.

I'm positive it wasn't low on oil. I checked that before and after the problem. I haven't dropped the oil pan yet and haven't inspected the crank or the bearings.

Andreas speculates that there is a slight possibility I have a loose flywheel because of my clattering noise and loss of power at higher RPMs fit the same problem.

But I'm usually not that lucky. I'll update when I know.

That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that.
