: Dual "Vette mufflers install complete
GTI-R LEMONDROP 12-19-2006, 08:44 PM After many, many hours of cutting, welding and grinding I finished the swap that I discussed in another thread. Lets start with the good shall we-
Noise reduced about 60% - HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY:) :)
The bad-
Backpressure quadrupled - went from original 7/10th of a PSI to 2.8 PSI:( :eek2: :squint:
Lessons learned-
1. NEVER ever underestimate how much exhaust volume a 2.0 under boost can produce.
2. NEVER assume shade tree engineering will always be succesful.
3. Heavily boosted sr20's don't like backpressure - felt like it lost at least 35 whp & wtq. Runs OK until it gets to about 5K rpms then you could watch the backpressure build constantly and feel it laboring to make more power as the revs increased.
I'm starting to smell an e-cutout around here somewhere. I really like the mellower sound for normal driving, but don't want to give up on the balls-to-the wall "Give me all you got Scotty" wide open speed warp runs:D

 i was hoping for a pic....what made u go with 2 muffler?
NoLmit-B13 12-19-2006, 11:13 PM how do u measure back pressure?
JSutter 12-19-2006, 11:30 PM how do u measure back pressure?
install a bung and pressure gauge in front of the cat (or ** whatever you want to check so in this case anywhere before the muffler). the gauge will read the flow, or lack there of.

good idea, bad luck

coryb13ser 12-20-2006, 03:29 AM i dont understand why no one is bashing this. dual exhaust on a b13, seriously :eek2:

because its functional and it gives others a different option for a quiet exhaust. its not like hanging a non functional muffler off the back of a car.

or just another tip and hoping no1 notices that theres a lack of piping and a muffler
GTI-R LEMONDROP 12-20-2006, 09:01 AM I'll get some pics up tonight. I'm pretty sure everyones heard this one before:
"If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all."
Geesh - This is not a true dual exhaust - same single 3" pipe to rear of the car where it splits into two separate pipes and mufflers. Just today I was behind an Oldsmoblie Aurora and it clearly used the same exact principle I used. Dang, it was just an experiment to see if it was possible to have the best of both worlds - quiet AND high flow/low restriction. Did Thomas Edison stop when his first attempt failed at making a light bulb - NO, he kept trying till it worked. I seen it as a personal challenge - others see it as unecessary and rediculous.

hey if it works it works.. not everyone likes loud exhausts.. and i dont want anyone to tell me i got a 3" exhaust with blah blah blah and its quiet cause your full of shit when you say that because you and i both know its loud.. it may be quieter than another 3" setup but still loud
coryb13ser 12-21-2006, 06:55 PM haha, sorry for not being nice. i guess you deserve a lot of credit, who knew adding another muffler would make the car quiet down. if you really jsut wanted to quiet your exhaust down, you could have gotten a cut out, you would have saved weight and it wouldnt look so lame. im just saying i think duel exhaust functional or not, is retarded on a I4 engine. maybe if it were twin turbo, or a v series engine. idk i guess im just not a big fan. duel exhaust = rice.
sorry if you dont like it, its just my opinion.

i agree,
for such an anti-rice forum i can't beleve everyone likes the big bird colored b13 with dual exhaust......And why did you post twice about this, one thread would have done just fine. Sorry if i sound like a hater but i'm just confused why you guys think this is the greatest thing ever. I agree with cory that a cutout would have done the job and you could have kept the squeaky clean stock exhaust. But dual vette mufflers works just the same i guess. But whatever, its your car and have fun with it.:)
coryb13ser 12-22-2006, 08:17 PM edit im done
