: 93 Ruby Red SE-R...tell me what you think!
shumax 05-11-2002, 08:11 PM Well, you have heard me ask about 100 questions in the last month. I finally picked mine up lastnight. To bad the damn thing ended up having two blown axles!!! That's going to set me back $350. I spent about 10 hours cleaning the engine/body/interior. I think it looks good for a car that's almost 10 years old:)
What do you guys think?

se-r sam 05-11-2002, 09:25 PM Nice!!!!!!
What did you have to give for it?
Where in Ohio are you?
shumax 05-11-2002, 09:45 PM I live near Mansfield, Ohio. Where the mid-ohio SCCA racing takes place. The seller was asking $5,500 for it. I talked him down a bit. It needs new paint on the front bumper. Other than that, the car is in good shape.
Thanks!

Looks like it was kept by an enthusiast. Good find.
10 years for a well-maintained example is nothing. Mine pulls harder than new.
Of course, you'll have to flog it to make sure.
shumax 05-12-2002, 10:25 AM Hey thanks! I just wish I had know about the axles. Still further, I wish I had the balls to attempt it on my own. I also wish someone lived close to me that would help for a case of their favorite beer!!!

finding ones that were taken care of are the best finds, regardless of body shape. my car runs laps around my dads se-r, and he still searches for different sr20de powered vehicles for sale to try to convince me to trade him and get a new one. i tell him no way.
Buckwilly 05-13-2002, 08:18 AM Nice Find. Everything looks like it is good shape. Did you get the OE rims and what is the mileage like on it? Did it have A/C and sunroof? Just curious because I just recently bought mine too. Still need to post pics.

A long time ago when I lived in Florida I had a lady friend who was originally from Mansfield. I can't remember her name but she was a petite fiery red head with lots of freckles. Probably in her mid to late 30's now. Oh what I'd give to hook up with her again ;-)
SE-R in Akron 05-18-2002, 12:10 PM I looked at and drove this car. Seemed pretty tight, but I didn't like the sticker treatment on the paint and didn't want to give up the cash he was asking. Very nice car, though!
.
shumax 05-18-2002, 03:16 PM Thats funny!:) What do you mean by "sticker" treatment? Those AUTOBAHN stickers? I left them for now, but might rip them off soon. I am still pissed at him about the CV joints. Did he tell you that they were bad? He called me about 5 days after I bought it to tell me he was sorry he forgot to mention it. I had emailed him complaining about the fact I kind of felt he deceived me. Whatever...
He was asking $5,500. I showed him $4,800 in cash and he took it.

SE-R in Akron 05-18-2002, 04:57 PM Yeah, those stickers below the mirrors on the doors...I don't exactly remember the text. I think there may have been a couple others as well??? I figured they would come off easy enough, but I thought that they might either leave remnants or bring paint with them. When we were test driving it, he mentioned that he had a CV boot replaced and he didn't know the condition of the joint because the boot had needed replaced for quite a while. I kind of thought he may be trying to hide the fact that he knew it was weak/bad. I told him at the time that if he would come down in the mid-to-high 4's , we would have a deal. He slept on it for a couple of days and then told me he would take 5K at the least. If it was perfect, I may have done that, but it DOES have a tiny bit of rust/bubbling down on the rockers if I remember correctly. I ended up buying a rust free, one-owner 72K beauty in Reno, NV. It will be shipped here next week.
shumax 05-18-2002, 05:54 PM Yea, those stickers are under the mirrors, on the front drivers side lip of the hood and on the bumper. They were all added recently and should come off without a problem---I hope.
Yea, he acted as if he knew a good deal about the car. I honetly don't think he had a clue, mechanically. He never told me anything about the CV's, but it's also my fault that I didn't look at them since I knew that the car has a history of that. What gets me is that even once he did call me to tell me about it, he siad that he knew they needed replaced, but hadn't touched them.
The rust? It's bubbling about 1" on the inner fender lip---I have a body guy I know that will fix it for $75. I just hope it doesn't come back.
What sold me was how nice the paint was, the fact he had a ton of performance parts already on it and it only had 75,000 miles on it. The price was really high. He should have been asking no more than $4000 according to KBB for a private seller. He was trying to tell me that the mods made up the $1500 diff---bullshit. Mods do nothing but take away from the car in my mind---tells me there was a potential he beat on it. However, since most of his mods were cosmetic, I felt that he was into the looks more than anything. I am happy he took the $4,800, but I am not sure I trust him all that much anymore. He seemed like a cool guy, but his actions tell me something else.
Oh well---just a car afterall.
Where are you at in Akron? I live in Ashland, Ohio and would love to meet up with you sometime. BTW---what did it cost to ship the car you bought?
SE-R in Akron 05-19-2002, 10:53 AM Oh well, the bottom line is that you still got a pretty nice ride. I can't remember the last time I bought a car and didn't have to put at least something into it. In 100 years, you'll never know the difference :)
I am using a company called Auto Logistics. They are charging me $725...this is a pretty good deal considering the distance (2K miles). I had a friend use them a few weeks ago for transport from Phoenix to Akron and had no problems, so I thought I would give them a try. If everything works out OK, I will be happy to post their number if anyone is interested.
I live in Green, which is just south of Akron. I haven't been out your way since my Dragway 42 days. I stopped going there when the potholes in the shutdown area and on the return roads got bigger than my car. That was a long time ago. I heard they have done a lot since then, but I haven't gone back. There are 2 other tracks close enough that I still go to. Let me know if you want to hook up some time. We are probably about 45? minutes apart.
Dave.
shumax 05-20-2002, 11:41 AM I live about 45min away, if that. I used to live in Wadsworth so I got to Belden Village quite a bit.
Anyway, I am in the process of replacing the axles on it now. I got the new RAXLES axles in and am going to be intalling the new reverse switch tonight. Fill it up with the REDLINE fluid and hopefully call it done!
See ya-
