I have been installing my BB DET this weekend. I have run into a problem with the Tranny and Engine lining up. My tranny is from a 1991 SE-R, Everything I read said it would line up with no problems, just that three bolts would not be used anymore.
The engine guide pins are not lining up with the trans. It almost seems that the tranny is 2mm too low to line up with the engine. I put the clutch alignment tool into the into the pilot bushing, it looks straight left to right, but up and down the rod looks to be leaning down.
Could something be wrong with the crank, I need help immediately ( I am running out of time and patience ). Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Craig

ok man..... done three tranny swaps so here goes.
The input shaft on the tranny doesnt actually anter into the pilot bearing. it just kinda rides against the outside edge.
How bout an old hot rodders trick to get everything lined up for ya...... take one of teh bellhousing bolts that connects the engine to the tranny and go to the hardware store and buy some with the same threads that are about four inches long. Take them home and cut the head of the bolts off right at the top by the head so you have a threaded rod with no bolt head about 4" long (the longer the better)
buy enough to make about three or four of these. Take and screw them into the engine before you even try to get the tranny up. Now what you can do is lift the tranny up onto these for bolts and use them as extra long alignment pins. When you get the tranny mated up properly pull the bolts one by one and replace them with the regular bellhousing bolts.
That should get you going. All but i think one of the bellhousing bolts will line up but i can't remeber which one. If you do a search of the archives at we-r.net i am sure you could find out which one.
Hope that helps.

I dunno what to say to help. My wife and I had the tranny off and back on my NX in three hours, and I had the case off and messing with the innards and everything. :)
I never have alignment problems like you are speaking of. I just grease the heck out of the input shaft, stick tranny on my chest, bench press it onto the motor with a little help fom someone pulling above me thru the engine bay, and slide it on. I always have to adjust the rotation of the tranny to the motor, but never up/down or side/side.

I figured it out guys, thanks for the advice. This morning I took the clutch off and the tranny slide right in, therefore I realigned the clutch for the 3rd time, this time the rod looked straight. Anyway, to make a long story short. The Tranny is in, two motor mounts are on, 80% of the wiring harness is plugged up, some other little pieces are installed. All I have to do is install axles, cross member, fluids, struts, wheels, clutch cablel, boost and oil pressure gauge and I will be on the road. It is raining like crazy outside right now, but I am certain the car will be running within a week.

Congrats! We are soon going to be inudated with DETs in the Midwest! Ben Moses, John Minnic, John's buddy in Louisville whose name escapes me, then Sandman, then blackb13 in Chicago, probably a few more already in the Chicago area, sweet! :)
