: cai, exhaust, or header?
eliterit 05-12-2002, 02:49 AM i'm having trouble deciding on the next bolt on to get for my car. I already have a top speed short throw and a ghetto wai, but that's about it.
i'm looking to spend no more than 250 bucks so if i get a header or exhuast it might have to be used. Also, which one of the three would have the most power gains? i've heard pacesetter headers get like 14hp?? but i've also heard that they're kinda cheap.
I probably wont be doing any more bolt ons soon after this mod, so i want to get the most out of my money even if i might have to spend 50 bucks more, so any opinions are greatly appreciated.
oh and does aem cai rate more than hotshot?
TIA
Stiletto 05-12-2002, 07:36 AM yes the AEM is getting 2-4 more hp than the HS. if you don't wanna spend more than $250 and get the most gains then you'll have to opt for the pacesetter. personally i'd save up and spend the extra $$ on a quality HS header, even a used one. the CAI is a nice mod, but won't get nearly the same results as a header. an exhaust is in the same ballpark as a cai as far as power. also try advancing your timing and see if that will give ya lil' extra oomph.
silversx 05-12-2002, 10:45 AM I hear the AEM intakes are constructed with a high level of quality in mind, AND they provide more power gains than other CAI's, like HotShot, Place Racing, and the others. If you got the bucks, go for the AEM CAI. Here's a link where you can get the CAI for a classic or NX for $265. I don't know where to find it any cheaper. You'll love the deep, throaty sound the cold air intake makes at WOT. I know I do. :D

Limited Slip 05-12-2002, 10:52 AM PR CAI or Pacesetter Header
I'd do both instead of spending it all on 1 new $$$ Hotshot Product
eliterit 05-12-2002, 11:36 AM so what are the downsides to pacesetter?? does it rust? what is it made out of?

Hmm.... I guess that depends on who you talk to. I've seen CAI's make 8-9hp on dynos on SE-R's, and exhausts make 2-3hp for the most part on an NA car.

Well, it's basicaly a gen 1 Hotshot - and Hotshot is on it's fifth and improved version of the header, so right there you can see how much it an be improved. Also the coating on the Pacesetter is sort of questionable, it is not ceramic like the Hotshot.
SERprise In WV 05-12-2002, 12:04 PM Pacesetters are awesome, and work very well.
However....in order to get all that air in, you must first be able to get it all out. Which is why my suggestion would be to start at the rear of the car and move forwards. Get an exhaust system that is larger in diameter to the 1 and 7/8" piping that your car had on it from the factory.
You would not believe how much that tiny pipe clogs up even a stock NA SR20DE engine.
More air out....more air in... :)
Good luck with whatever mod you choose to do.
PlanoSER 05-12-2002, 12:15 PM I'm all about hte pacesetter.. best 150bux you can spend on the thing :) Oh yeah, also be sure to bump ur timing up to 19* coz it makes a big difference and is FREE :D
o ya check www.jcwhitney.com thats where i got my pacesetter for 148 shipped
OnyxEros 05-12-2002, 12:23 PM The best bang for the buck will be a CAI no question.
I love my PR but i got mine in a group deal for $160 shipped, find a cheap new one (pr, hs, aem) and go with it
O
Pretty White 05-12-2002, 05:34 PM Want my opinion? Get some Eibachs!
eliterit 05-13-2002, 11:17 AM hmm, i guess it wouldnt be that great if i had a bottlenecked stock muffler with a cai,, so i guess i'll be getting a muffler soon
SERfanatic 05-13-2002, 01:31 PM Where would be the cheapest place to buy a new CAI? I wouldn't mind buying one used but no luck!
NismoNx2000 05-13-2002, 02:52 PM WEll, if you want to hook up a pacesetter header, good luck. I ordered one back in january, and my order was canceled after 2 months of not receving the header. That was march 25th, 2 months of waiting, now its may, and pacesetter still says there on backorder for 4 to 6 weeks, they have been on backorder for 4 to 6 weeks for about 5 months now.....its quite frustrating.
eliterit 05-14-2002, 05:32 PM does anybody know if the stillen is a good priced muffler? for i think $257, or are there cheaper and better ones out there? The most im looking to pay is about 280.
FastNX 05-14-2002, 06:26 PM AVOID STILLEN AT ALL COST!!!!
LogicalRetard 05-14-2002, 08:59 PM Stillen sucks. Be like every other Honda boy and get all three...then walk around and say..."yeah, I have I,H,E", or be a man and buy some internal stuff so nobody will no it's there...do a box mod, run a straight pipe....screw the header untill you really need it.
eliterit 05-15-2002, 12:16 AM is stillen bad because of customer service or the quality of their parts?

Quality has never been an issue with Stillen, except maybe for their rusting exhausts. They just have built a corporation from ripping off young kids who don't know any better. Their customer service is also in question, I've had some negative stuff go down with them.
eliterit 05-15-2002, 01:46 AM i see,
so if not stillen where should i look for around a 300 buck price range for an exhaust??/
