First off, I am dumb. So, can somebody explain to me the use of the EGR Valce, Canister, and all that crap? Second off, do I even need any of this stuff? The other night, I was speaking with a felow SE-R owner and he said he was removing all of that stuff...though it looks like a pretty intricate set-up. Any thoughts?

If your state tests for NOX then you will probably need a good working EGR system to pass. If they only test for carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons then you should be able to pass as long as your cat is good and you're not running agressive cams.

If they have a visual test where they pop open your hood that is another matter.

James, good link...but the guy sort of drops-off...and doesn't give much of an answer, let alone opinion on what to do... :(

My egr has been disconnected for a while, and i passed inpsection no problem with it that way. And NJ has some pretty strict laws. Unless your in california, then i say go ahead and disconnect that sucker. :)

Well I know that you have to cover the holes on the intake manifold. You would have to get a piece of metal made to screw in to block the hole. Im not sure what else there is to do, besides covering the holes in the exhaust manifold. I'll tell you what all needs to be done when I do it

The EGR tube basically takes hot exhaust coming out, and recirculates it back in the intake manifold. Its good for emissions, but I dont think it helps performance any, seems like it hurts it, but dont take my word for it.

I have a JDM engine, and it doesnt even have any of the EGR stuff on it, so I pretty much dont have any emissions stuff at all.

Don't do it. No evidence to suggest it helps anything and we all have to breathe.

Tree hugger!! :p Just kiddin, but yeah, if you want to take it off just for the hell of it, its probably not worth the trouble. I dont have any of it because of the new engine.

Or just shoot nitrous right in there like a man :D. It's good too live in Florida....no emissions.
