: is it OK to install a cam with some pitting?
sr20wop 12-28-2006, 03:32 PM pretty small
probably about the size of one of the smilies ->
i'm thinking a defect this small won't effect the performance of the cam
sr20wop 12-28-2006, 05:09 PM :( ttt
Jaketips42 12-28-2006, 05:35 PM On what part of the lobe is pitted?
what are your monitor settings?
SuperblkStalion 12-28-2006, 05:46 PM well so long as its only on a small part but the rest of the lobe still opens what needs to be opened correctly i would do it. is it an aftermarket cam? if not then get a stock one from some forum member cheap.

Yeah, lol!
MIXMASTAP2 12-28-2006, 06:02 PM i pulled a pitted cam out of my old car and just put it in my friends 200. it was a 91 highport cam with about 80% of one lobe pitted across the high spot of the lobe. it was quiet and ran like any other. but only if it looks like it might work

btw its a 91 intake cam
the big circle is pretty much right on top
the small one is not on top of the lobe

McCoy 12-28-2006, 08:01 PM Can you post a little larger picture of the cam? Just from that picture I would say not to run it. Especially when you can get an intake cam in excellent condition for around $35-40 shipped. Heck I have one sitting in my garage I would ship out to you tomorrow if you're needing it :)

eric96ser 12-28-2006, 11:08 PM Looks like a POS. I would contact the seller for a refund. The only way I would out that in my car, was the drive to the UPS station to send it back.
McCoy 12-28-2006, 11:09 PM His new intake cam is shipping tomorrow.

ashtonsnissannx 12-29-2006, 02:05 AM i mean even that wasnt too bad, when i miss shifted into second @7750rpms in third and shattered almost all the rockers i had some nice size dings and gouges in my s3's. all i did was took a file and filled down the rough spots so they cam flat with the cam profile, i put new rockers in and started it back up and it ran just the same as it did before. Even with that wear as long as you filed it down and as long as there still area that isnt gouged on the tip of the lobe it will still lift the same as before. that kinda looks like what happened with that cam? shattered rockers
****** good news on the new cam though, sounds good
sr20wop 12-29-2006, 08:05 AM thanks guys i think i made the right choice in getting the other cam from mccoy :)
ashtonsnissannx 12-29-2006, 11:52 AM yeah glad to hear it all worked out good, either way it would have been good, at least he didnt just blow you off, good luck
