Well, I recently copped me one of these for cheap at the shop I was recently at. Details later. I saw it and had to have it since I already had an Injen full stack. I scored it for super cheap since it didn't fit a recent customers setup. My question is Has anyone ever incorporated one before?. I'm really looking for factual information, but if you feel like giving your opinions feel free... if they are negative please state why you feel this way instead of just bashing for G.P.

From what I have searched about them, they can be used to shield heat from the engine bay away from the intake. They can also be used as a splash shield in a Cold Air Setup (in the wheel well). I've seen a lot of people sport them in Europe but I never really see them around here.

I'm eventually going to put it on, but I just wanted to source some info... Google didn't really give me much.. So, have any of you used them? Turbo (I know w/ an intercooler it might be neglidgible? N/A? Warm Air Setup? (in your Engine Bay) in Cold Air Setup (Wheel Well)? If you have, would you mind posting some example pictures?

Questions, Comment, Concerns, Speak on it :D

Thank you in advance...

Well the heat shields I have seen are plates that when the hood is shut they only allow cold air from behind the headlights to reach the filter, that one looks to me like it will not prevent the swirl of hot air from the engine bay being able to reach the filter, as well as that it is much to close to the filter and will mean that not all the filter is being used, try it for 20 k miles and you will see that the filter behind that plate will be spotless while the outer edge will be caked, I vote POS, but only a mild pos, I just hope you didnt pay too much

Regards,

Mike

Thanks Mike... Yes from looking around for a day, I've noticed that the real under hood shields (like the ones developed for the 350z/G35 seal with the hood. Unfortunately, I couldn't find much information for this thing... I def want to try it out... well see. (I think I just like it mainly because of the "bling" factor)

Oh, and if you know me you know I don't pay full price (even quarter price in this case) for anything! :biggthump... :jammin:

Another option for heat shields is the JWT one that comes with the POP filters for some models, like the 350z:

It does not come w/the SR20 filter, but I'm sure it could be made to fit.

From what I have always heard..any type of metal including aluminum atract heat.So I would think that a sheild like that would just atract heat to your filter, unless you wrapped it with some sort of heat resistant material, like you would use over a starter.Just my 2 cents!

Damn, Maybe I should make one...oooo - dremel, saw, and a bucket...

unfortunately, this one does bot fit my pop charger...

hm, okay. This concept has me buggin. They use exhaust heat shields, manifold heat shields... turbo heat shields... they are all metal... but what do they actually do. They seem to protect other things that emit heat...

It doesnt "attract" heat, it just conducts any heat that may be there already.

Exactly. Mike is also spot on about one area getting dirty, the other will remain fairly clean. Either run it the way it was, or build a box that only allows outside air in.
