Howdy! I put some Brembo oem replacement rotors on my '92 classic a few weeks back. I've noticed recently that on very sharp right handed turns (only while braking) I hear a kind of low pitched humming sqeaking sound coming from the rear passenger side of the car. I removed the rear passenger side wheel and inspected, but nothing is loose and there is no sign of rubbing on the rotor. Anyone have any ideas I can try? George Roffe thinks it's the splash guard, but I'd like to hear any other ideas out there in case that doesn't solve it tomorrow night.
Thanks. - Jamie

Well, if the rotor was thinner at the studs, then could the tire/wheel be closer to the rear strut? I know on my 205/50/15 kuhmo 712s, there is very little room between the strut and the tire, and you can see that its rubbing on hard cornering.

I'm running stock 14s. The weird thing that really confuses me is that I only hear the sound when braking. While making a sharp right turn, I can blip the brakes a bunch of times and will hear the humming blip with them. When I say sharp braking I mean steering wheel is locked to the right. I cannot reproduce it without turning this sharp. Thanks. - Jamie

Since it only happens in a turn, I vote for the rubbing on the shock. I have red paint from AGXs on my 195mm wide Kumhos (stock rims)

Interesting that the noise is coming from the rear only while turning to the right, seems like if its coming from the rear, the noise should happen any time you hit the brakes, regardless of which direction the front wheels are turned. Is this only under higher lateral g forces?
What about wheel bearings? I take it you autocross, so thats a bit harder on those bearings than daily driving. Could your rear one be making noise when the wheel is being pushed out from the bottom (right hand turn) while braking?
Also make sure all your rear bushings look ok.

Well I took the wheel and rotor off tonight and snooped around a bit. No witness marks of any kind. I bent the splashguard back but I highly doubt that's what it is. I took it for a ride and that effin noise is still there. I played with it in a parking lot for a good hour. I can make the noise happen everytime on a slow right hand steering wheel locked turn. But only when the brakes are pressed. Also, I can make the noise when the car is moving backwards down a hill and I apply the brakes. It's the same low pitched rubbing sound. Maybe I can put something on the strut and see if it rubs off. Any ideas? Thanks for your input. - Jamie
