Well I am looking at buying pullies for my DET. Now I was checking out a group buy going on on www.groupbuycenter.com, and racesearch.com is having a sale. Now you can either buy the crank pulley and water pump pulley for $220, or a full accessory set, including alt, water pump, P/S, and crank (no A/C) for $350. Which is most cost effective? Am i really going to see much in performance gains with the all new accessory pullies? or should I just go with the crank pulley and water pump? Thanks in advance

I'm not positive on this, so correct me if I'm wrong...

I think Unorthodox only underdrives the crank pulley. They focus on the crank because the best results are achieved there (other companies focus on the accessories). Therefore, the accessory pulleys are not underdriven because it's already done at the crank. The only advantages to the accesory pulleys by Unorthodox, is that they look cooler and you probably save a little reciprocating weight. The crank pulley is most important.

If your interested in getting the most power for your money, I would say just buy the crank pulley. I'm sure the difference between the two sets is far less than 1 horsepower. There's not going to be a noticeable, neck snapping difference.

The crank pulley and the water pump pulley come as a set....with the other two pulleys, your only going to see a 1-2 hp gain over the 2 set of puelleys, which has been said to produce 7-9 hp over the power band. Dont waste your money on the 4 pulley set, just get the crank and water pump pulley. Not to mention, the other two pulleys are supposed to be a real pain to install. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot guys for your replies, yea, I figured it wasnt going to improve anything that much so I went with the set of 2 rather than all 4. But thanks anyways...;) Later

Crank and water pump are the way to go. The car definately rev's a bit better with the pulleys.

Check around for prices though, $220 isnt all that great for a group buy. I got mine last summer locally and paid $200 for them, and just a few months ago, I did a group deal on the UR 2 pulley set for $185 shipped.

Try to keep it at $200 and under (w/shipping)
for the UR two pulley set. $185 was a great deal Fast91SER.

I know that UR pullies are used on Turbo applications as well as NA, but I was wondering if with increased stress on engine with turbo, it's safe to remove the harmonic balancer for the sake of gained hp on a street car.

IF you have the money just get all 4. It always sound better when you say i have all 4 pullies and not just crank and waterpump

Actually all you're saying is "I paid an extra $150 for only 1 hp" :p

The crank frees up the most HP, but the waterpump also really helps, you can have some problems when you're constantly going at or past 7000rpms over and over, like while lapping, but the UR waterpump pulley helps reduce this.

Newbie Question:

Are 7-9 HP gains common for the 2 pulley set? Also, is the install a real pain, or not terribly bad? I'm gonna do some searching on se-r.net, but its always nice to get some extra opinions. Thanks

I think 9hp is a rather high estimate. I think in general its 4-5hp.

I quoted 7-9 HP from Nismo's post, but if 4-5 HP is more realistic, then thats exactly the kind of info I needed. How about install? Thanks

Everyone is actually skipping the magical number....6hp, at least thats what I've seen from dyno numbers.

As for the install, you might need a pulley puller for the crank pulley. The water pump one is more of a bitch to change because you are limited on space, and a few people had problems with the fitment, and had to enlarge the center hole in the pulley to make it fit. I however did not have to do that, so maybe it was a certain batch that was made with the hole too small.
