Ok... so i can not get the fucking nissan data scan to connect with my computer. I have the black box that is sold in the sr20forum as my interface to the consult port. The box reads values so i know the port is working. I have tryed 2 different cables so i dont think that is the problem. I have tried the rs232 adapter to usb cord from best buy and one i bought off line. The com port on my laptop is set to com 1, when i go to connect to com 1 on the program i can hit connect and nothing happens. If i change ports to anything over that 1 or 3 it says invalid port. If i use port 1 or port 3 and click connect and nothing happens. I am pissed because datascan 1.52 will not connect, and neither will calumsult. WTF is up...
I have a 95 nissan 200sx se-r, turbo hightport with jwt ecu....

com1 is almost never going to be the com port for a usb/serial adaptor, and com3 is used by something else too i think. normally it will be COM4 and up.
u need to right click my computer, properties, hardware, device manager, ports, and see the com port listed next to your usb/serial adaptor. if its not there then u havent installed drivers right.

The one listed is com1. com4/5/6/7/8/9 none of them work

u said com1 is listed...is this next to "Serial Port(COM1)" or "USB/Serial Adaptor(COM1)" or there abouts? ie are drivers etc installed correctly so ur usb/serial adaptor shows up?
i have a laptop without serial port and my usb/serial adaptors have never turned up on COM1

It says serial port(com 1) there is no usb.serial adaptor listed. How would you get that to show up?

I'll bet its your rs232 to USB adapter. I ordered the one that the DataScan site recomends and it works fine on my car.
I forget, does DataScan work on an OBD II car?

Up to 1997. The 98-99s have the consult port, but won't work with any of the existing consult software.

Yep, its gotta be the adapter then. USB to serial adapters are notoriously uncooperative if they do not contain the right chipset for the application.
Like the sales guy at Best Buy told me when I looked at one of theirs "They either work great or they won't work at all."

thats what i thought - you need to install the drivers for it (sorry didnt get notification of reply to this back when you did).
most usb/serial adaptors ive tried (actually, all) have worked, though some bluescreen and other nasty stuff randomly.
what brand is it?

The brand is dynex... Where do you find the drivers to dl them?
update: Found a couple of different drivers... got one to work, but still wont connect. It listed in device manager under com port 4. Tried in datascan... The status bar on the bottom just kept going from left to right.
I am trying to use this box = http://shop.sr20forum.com/products/nissdatascan-digital-display
but the old school version
With a best buy seriel usb adaptor on windows xp.
What driver do i need? How is the PROPER way to install it? (I believe 99se-l is useing this same setup, hopefully he will chime in)
