: which tire should I use?
Buckwilly 05-14-2002, 12:13 PM Yes, I did do searches and I still looking...
But.
Since I dont think I can use any other tire spec than 205-40-16 on my classic se-r...i was wondering which tire was better for mostly road use with the occaisional autocross. I travel a lot of miles and would prefer them to last a bit. The treadwear is stated but usually exaggerated.
Potenza RE950's, Yok avid H4s, Sumimoto HTR+, Parada Spec 2, Yok A520's (little bit low for treadwear on these), khumo 712's (Had them on my max and they wore fast..good in rain though), or Dunlop SP sport FM901(? Never heard of these), or those Falken Ziexs?
These are all the tires I could find for my rims....I have had experience with the potenza's and the Khumos....I liked the potenza 950's and their treadwear, but they are a little expensive. Khumos, well, I dont know how they are on se-rs but they were worn out in one summer on my maxima (however I was a little heavy on the gas)...auto-xing input woudl be nice too. I am planning on getting a set of 2 15" rims for auto-xing (azenies mos. def) but I dont know if I can afford it till later this year.

In my opinion you answered your own question. You will pay more for the 950's but you get a good handling tire that also last pretty well. That’s a hard compromise to get.

LogicalRetard 05-14-2002, 03:17 PM Falken Azenis.
shumax 05-14-2002, 08:26 PM Nitto 450's
Nitto 450s are as hard as rocks, and the Azensis are too soft for extended street driving.
Try the Kumho 712s again.
LogicalRetard 05-14-2002, 08:51 PM I have the 712's on my other car...they are loud and somewhat hard. I have the Azenis's on my SE-R...they are great, but will weear out in about 15-20k. Try the Falken 451's i think they are called....great all around tire.
Buckwilly 05-22-2002, 08:55 AM I ended up going with 950's since I have to use them daily and need some tread wear...guess I will just have to test them auto-xing..anyhow, they are going on the rear and my barely worn shittos are going on the front. Time to light up the last two crappy tires. By the way...what made me know the shittos were crap were the razor blade slice-like cuts on the sidewall that started to become really deep. What the hell are those about? That never happened to any of my tires even my cheapos when I was young. IMO the nittos are the worst tire I have ever experienced...and dangerous.

NismoNx2000 05-22-2002, 09:05 AM I have the dunlop sp sport a2's on my car because i need an all season good all around performance tire that would last. It has a 420 treadwear rating, which should last me at least 50k im hoping, plus, they have decent grip on dry surfaces. 55 bucks a pop at tirerack.
DTyne 05-22-2002, 09:23 AM I bought some wheels for my classic in which the Falken Zeix's were already on. They aren't bad. Kind of hard, definately loud, but they are good in the rain and they will last you. If you autox alot I don't know if I'd get these, but otherwise I've thought they are pretty good tires.
Buckwilly 05-22-2002, 09:33 AM For some reason they made an H rated potenza 950 tire for my 16x7 rims ...even though they did not offer the 730 in that size in 40 profile. Sort of odd....I can get the H rate potenza in a lower profile than a Z rate tire. I wanted 730's initially but they would not fit either. I HAVE TO GET A 40 or 45 profile tire so that sort of kills the dunlop A2 idea. It took me two months to research what I was going to get. There just didnt seem to be a better deal than the 950's...and I am willing to pay a little extra to avoid nitto and Khumo. It nice to have a daily driver H rated tire for treadwear and still get the handling and wet/dry traction of a really good tire from everything I have read. I have not read any compaints about them. ANd they wear great and stil retain the wet/dry traction through all the wear. :D
I guess the true test is yet to come. I bet I wont be able to peel out as easily anymore. I just ultimately want 15" slipstreams and azenies for the track. Now, if I can only get my crack house up and working for that non-taxable cash
;)
LogicalRetard 05-23-2002, 12:56 AM Bridgestone's are awesome tires. Firestone's...are not :D. They are way better than the Kumho Ecsta's and the Falken's (not the Azenises), I think they are called the re-71s or somethinglike that...great tire, but a little too rich for my blood. I'll just stick with my $55-a-tire Azenises.

bought those a few weeks ago.. they suck :p
Buckwilly 05-23-2002, 08:30 AM I got the 950's on. Check this out: My old nitto front tires were so messed up. The side wall of them look as if someone took a knife to them and made a long slice in the rubber. I have never seen something like this. THe only reason they must not have leaked was the inner tube part. I am gonna post pics because these tires are shiyat and I'd like to figure out what could do that. Anyhow, my potenza 950's are nice...no one ever talks about them on here...but for upstate ny daily driving. What grip. But then again, I had shittos on for the whole time I had the car. Nice to have a H rated 40 profile tire.
