Ok, I know both of these primaries are HS headers, but I need to find out which gen each one is.

I have heard 2 different sides of of this story, one person told me the first gen HS headers had the biggest primaries, so that would mean the one on the right is a first gen. Someone also told me the later versions of the HS have bigger primaries, so that one is most likely a 3rd gen.

I am aware that the Pacesetter was basically an identical copy of the 1st gen HS, and if that is the case, the one on the right cannot be a 1st gen because the primaries are bigger than my current Pacesetter.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I am guessing the one on the left is a second gen, but I would like to try and find out.

Also, which would be better to use for all motor purposes? Are the bigger primaries an advantage or disadvantage for all motor??

Thanks :cool:

I could tell that both header are CRACKED

LOL:D :D :D

Nah, only one is cracked, but I will go ahead and get both welded just as a precaution.

The one on the right is newer...why? Because I said so...call it a hunch :D. The one on the left has a dent in the primary second from the left. If you want to rev, bigger primaries = more flow, but if you want torque and don't mind sacrificing engine breathablity a little then a smaller primary is recommended, but I would advise get the larger primary header because the restriction that helps with torque can more than be made up in the cylinder head, or exhaust sytem.

Serban, for some reason I'm thinking the one on the left is a Hotshot 3rd gen. Don't know why though.

Left = hs gen 2
right=hs gen 3 or later
The bigger primaries were on later hs designs.

I have to agree with Bennitto Mallito on this one. The one on the right is a Gen3, while the one on the left is an older version. Measure the diameter of the piping if you have to. 1 5/8" would be the diameter of the Gen2 piping, and 1 3/4" is the Gen3 and later.

I agree with both of you.

Left: HS Gen -12
Right: HS Gen 3-4

The one on the right is a 3rd gen. The 4th gen has "HS" etched in the flange.

Hey, why not just send them both to me and I'll test them out for you. Whichever one works better, I'll send back to you, and I'll keep the other one since you won't be needing it anymore. :D

Deal?

Thanks guys, I knew none of them would be the 4th gen, because the HS logo isnt etched on them.

NismoPC, sorry, not going to send you any headers to try out. I'll be the test monkey here :D

Now that I have this somewhat figured out, is the one on the right the better one to use?

Yes, yes, and yes again. The 3rd gen is the one with the 1 3/4 primaries. The smaller primaries are on the gen 1 and 2. However generations 1-2 had the larger secondaries which like NOS. In the 3rd gen they changed to a smaller secondary. In the 4th gen they had the logo imprinted on the flange and also added a true merge collector with some kind of fish tail design that would help out flow.(This is what John Spangler told Andreas and I at morosso last year) I am not positive in the difference in the 5th gen besides the fact that John told me that they used a different flexpipe design.

Ok, to answer your question......If you plan to stay N/A then put the one with the larger primaries on. If you plan to use NOS then you can use a hybrid (gen 3 top and gen 2 bottom) or just use the one with the smaller primares but larger secondary.

Hope this helps Serban.

Thanks Doug, it helps a little, but I wouldnt know which gen secondary I have for the life of me. I got these pieces from Andreas, and he had 3 secondaries just hanging on the wall and told me to choose one. I took the one which looked to be in the best condition...who knows, I might end up with a hybrid header anyway. :p

I do plan to stay all motor, no funny gas for me, so I guess I should use the one with the bigger primaires.

The 2nd gen will work better. Now send the other one to me. :)

Now put a Stillen 4-2-1 header next to both and you will learn to appreciate both.

Sorry Eric, I am not sending out any headers :) I am hoping the one on the right will work better since that is the one I plan on putting on. The other I will keep around just in case.

Ian, sorry, I wont go out to buy a Stillen header just to compare :p I will however put the Pacesetter next to the HS when I take it off :)

Hey leave my stillen header out of this! :p If I had a ruler I would measure the primaries on mine. Anyone know the diameter. I'm just curious.:

Hey Serban, if you put these HS headers on ur car, whatcha doin with the Paceheader? I'll buy it from you if nothing is wrong with it and you don't need it :D

Chris, I have a few people interested in them already, but however, if in the next 2 weeks, none of them come through, I will put them online for sale, and you can have first crack at them :)
