Ok i know what a wastegate and what a bov do but why do you need a bov if you have a wastegate? Also do you need a boost controller or is that only if you want to change your boost? Also is there a way to turn off your turbo if you want and only turn it on when you want it? Lets say i'm driving to the store and i don't need it on but then a camero pulls up and wants to rumble can i flip a switch to turn it on? Thanks for your help and this would be good stuff to go in a FAQ

I donno about the bov thing but you dont need a BC if you dont want to increase boost and turbos on all the time no switching it on and off...

Show me, kind sir, a supercharger that is practical, which can be enabled and disabled at will? I've seen advertisements, and heard folk tales, but never actually seen one.

As for BOV + Wastegate, the wastegate keeps your compressor from making too much boost while the throttle is open. With the throttle closed, though, the intake tract is still being charged, so opening the wastegate does you no good; this is where the BOV (or CBV) comes into play.

A good boost controller is a nice way to get around the wastegate's limitations. I believe that Bluebird W/Gs are set at about 0.5 Bar (don't quote me, but please correct me), and a manual boost controller can keep you from actuating it so soon; sometimes up to 12 PSI. An electronic boost controller can also set RPM-dependent levels of boost to keep from overrunning your fuel system.

I made a big old long post about the basics of how BOV's and wastegates work. Search for it if you can.

Well, Terrin, searching for posts containing "wastegate" made by "92SE-R" in all forums turned up a few threads, but nothing I'd call a "big old long post." ;)

Yeah the bb wastegate is set at .5 bar and your basic boost controller will raise it up to .9 bar. .5bar=7psi and .9bar is like 12.5 psi.
