Hey, I just got back from the city and busted up my oil pan on a bad pot hole and shut the car off immediatlely and it took a while for all the oil to come out so, the motor should be ok but I have to change the oil pan, I have another one but what should I use as a gasket?? should I use a gasket and silicone or just silcone or what kind of silicon, I'm so burnt beacuse on the phone the tow truck guy said 185 and then once the guy gets me hooked up he says oh its going to be 300 its further than we thought and I waslike yo trust me it aint further than that and I was like check your odometer and of course it was "broken" he said they dont do it by miles? which i dont understand how that works and im really pissed any advice on this oil pan would be appreciated.tia

Use Liquid Gasket Ultra-Grey or clone brand as the lower pan seal. There's no solid gasket.
The FSM has a good diagram, and Haynes at least has the written procedure on how to reseal the lower pan. Searching the 'List archives or these forums would probably turn something up.
Sorry about the burn with the tow truck monkeys.

Go to your closest Honda dealer and get a tube of HONDABOND! Scrape both mating surfaces lower and upper oil pan with a razor at a 90 degree angle. Clean out the groves in the lower pan lip. Put the Hondabond on both surfaces as the FSM shows. and Bolt back togeather. If you do it this way i guarentee you will have no leaks.

Don't use a screwdriver or you'll bend and scratch the mating surface. Use a putty knife or something thin like that. Carefully go around the edge of the oil pan with it. You can use a hammer to get it between the surfaces, but be careful not to scratch things up.

Now that you have the info for replacing your oil pan (something I needed as well), you should consider becoming a AAA member. This is very helpful in situations where you would need a tow. For what you paid for your one tow, that would have been almost 6 years of membership fees.

From my personal experience, the lower oil pan doesn't come off easily, especially when you are trying to save it to reattach it later.
What worked quite well for me was to create a tool sorta like the one described in the FSM. I took my 1" wide by 3" tall (blade) putty knife, cut about half the blade off, bent the remaining part at a 90 degree angle, then using a dremel sharpened the three sides of the blade that was bent out. This allowed me to pound the tool into the seam between the upper and lower pan, then use a hammer to pound and move the tool around the seal, breaking it.
Bending it at 90 degrees allows the tool to move around areas where there isn't enough clearance, like the alternator bracket (i think, in front), and the exhaust.

I have had no luck lately and cant catch a break, on top of that now that i have a look at it my boot is ripped of the axle from where the guy hooked up the towing chain, atleast i know my luck cant possible get any worse i hope. im probably going to do it friday or this weekend.
