: My rice gauges
Serban 05-16-2002, 12:55 AM So I had the little rice devil on my shoulder telling me to buy them, and here they are, my reverse indiglo gauges :)
http://garnet.acns.fsu.edu/~sgg8661/ricegauges.jpg
I slaughtered the hole for the needles on the tach and speedo, basically I tried to slip them on over without taking the needles off, and I made a big mess of things, so I had to make the holes bigger so the needles wont get stuck, they look like crap, just dont stare at the center of those gauges too long :D
At night they are pretty bright, the center of the tach and speedo light up, while the rest of the gauge stays white, the the numbers also light up, along with a whole bunch of dashes.
I was going to return them, but they kind of grew on me, and now with what I did to them, they will laugh at me if I try and return them.
BTW, I bought these from www.procarparts.com
eliterit 05-16-2002, 12:58 AM damnit, if only i owned a 91-92 se-r :(
Monsoon 05-16-2002, 09:47 AM hey, how is visibility at night? i know we talked about the white guage/white needles right when you ordered them. i'm assuming, since you've kept them, that it's visible?
if i get that, i may order them neon blue needles i showed you. expensive setup, but definitely pimp.
DaGenesis 05-16-2002, 09:57 AM hey i bought the same ones for my 95 se-r
they look awesome at night
ill post pics this weekend
Serban 05-16-2002, 10:43 AM Monsooon, at night the needles are pretty visible, its during the day time you have to pay more attention to them.
Hawaii_SE-R 05-16-2002, 02:47 PM Serban,
Looks good (as long as I'm not staring at the middle of the speedo and tach). Can you post some pix of it in the dark?
Thanks,
Hawaii_SE-R 05-16-2002, 02:56 PM Nevermind, went to the website and found this:

nismo91 05-16-2002, 02:59 PM You go RICE! I mean it looks really good Serban. ;) How about adding this to your "rice gauge?" Check it out! (http://importintelligence.com/FMPro?-DB=cart.fp3&-Format=Iglow.html&-Token=33128&-RecID=33128&CustID=USA&-Edit)
martin_g34 05-16-2002, 03:44 PM GUYS THERE IS NO NEED TO CUT YOUR GAUGES OR REMOVE YOUR NEEDLES. I know that I've posted this before, but here it goes again. All you have to do is remove the black caps from the needles and then the gauges will just simply slip right in. The gauges will go in without a problem on the gas and temp. gauges. You only have to remove the caps from the speedo and tach. Just take your time and pop one side of the cap off and then the other, make sure that you are holding the needle so you dont bend or break it. And also don't loose the small weights that are inside of the caps. I hope this helps anyone that might be doing this in the future.
It suck that you didn't get to read my previous post on this Serban.:( But hey, live and learn.
Does anyone know if anyone makes these gauges for the B14?
Martin
Serban 05-16-2002, 04:02 PM Hey Martin, thanks for the info, too bad I already hacked them up pretty good. They actually make them for the B14, you just have to look on their site. www.procarparts.com
Nismo91, I dont think I will get those needles, they look nice, but I honestly dont know how long I will keep these gauges on my car, by the end of the month, I might get tired of them :)
Driven97 05-16-2002, 04:30 PM RICE!! Woo hoo!
Why not just hit the tip of the needle with some red paint / nailpolish. They would then be easy to see any time of the day?
chriscar 05-16-2002, 04:51 PM I'd like those gauges allot more if the center didn't light up. Is there moybe a circuit trace on the back of the gauge that could be cut which would disable the center section?
I emailed the vendor with the same question and they never responded.

Wouldn't that pretty much leave you with white face gauges, just blue and in a different font?

I think this might work. You might be able to paint the whole needle red. The needle is plastic so if you color it, the light should shine right through?
9d1ser 05-16-2002, 05:27 PM Just get a sent of RED indiglow neddles, and you'll have that VW look.
here's the sight:

I don't think so. Take a look at the picture Hawaii_SE-R posted. There's an electrical connector going to all 4 guages. Seems to me that all letters, numbers, lines and other markings light up. It's the overly bright center section that puts them over the top in my opinion.
Chris
Serban 05-16-2002, 10:32 PM I *think* its possible to cut the circuit for the center indiglo, I looked at it because I wanted to do the same, but then again, the portion of the redline dashes are right on the center indiglo, so I didnt want that to go out as well. I have gotten used to the indiglo, but thoughts ran through my mind to just cut the whole center piece out, but it might look to weird. I should have taken a pic of the backside...maybe next time when I get bored and pull out the cluster :)
I would take some pics of the gauges at night, but the camera doesnt do very good night pics.
Thomas, give me a call, and we will head out to Towers.
