: Need some quick advice on Stock Springs - semi-urgent

Hey all - my NX 1600 is getting de-tuned, and the hypercos are coming off. I bought a set of stock NX2k springs off the forum, which are giving the shop trouble - 2 springs were short, 2 were long, whereas they hypercos that they pulled off were all the same size. Anyway, with the "stock" springs on, the rear is riding six inches too high.

So - has the shop got it wrong? Or are they incorrect springs?

Would NX2ks vs. 1600s have different springs? I didnt think so.

Are fronts and rears reversed or something? Are they supposed to be different lengths?

Help! And thank-you in advance.

I do not know the exact answer.

However, from the information above, the springs are not interchangeable from front to rear on a Sentra. Notice that the spring rates vary by model from front to rear.

Therefore, I am going to hazard a guess, you cannot switch the NX springs either from front to rear. You must get them correct.

Notice that I said "guess."

Anybody confirm my assertation?

Yeah - fair enough on the front/rear.

Are they supposed to be visibly different lengths though?

I feel like a total n00b asking these questions. Been out of the scene for too long

Thats OK, I don't know the answer either, and I wrote the suspension thread.

I *think* they are different lengths.

Tell ya what, when we get an answer I'll stick it in here:

Just a quick question, are you putting these back on stock struts? I have my stock suspension boxed up and in the garage. I'd get the box down and take a look, but I blew my shoulder out.

Maybe I can get the ladder high enough to peek inside. If so, I'll let you know.

Thanks so much, Vladha - they are going onto AGX's - which a number of people, in a different thread, reported they were running fine with stock springs.

Don't hurts yourself (climbing up and down ladders one-handed) on my behalf dude!

Yep, they are different lengths. The short struts are for the fronts, the taller are the rears. That being said, I test fitted them and the long springs test fit better on the rears... by far. To use them on the fronts, you would have to really compress them alot. You have to compress them, anyway, to put them or take them off of the stock struts, but not that much.

Plus, the stock fronts are 200 and the rears are 100... the tall seem to compress a little easier.

Now that they're down again, I think I'll go ahead and toss them or shorten the struts to use my hyperco's... that's if I ever get tired of my Progress set up;).

Wow - thanks so much for your help - just to confirm - the front springs are *short*, the rears are the long, tall ones?

And AGX's are the same size as factory struts, right?

Thank-you again!

AGXes are the same dimensions as factory struts, but have a larger-diameter shaft.

Stock SE-R springs are 123F/112R and, IIRC, NX2k springs are more or less the same rate but slightly shorter, at least in front. I am going from many-years-ago-on-the-list memory here. NX2k springs are not the same as NX1.6k springs.

Cheers David - that's my understanding. I've spoken to the person who sourced the springs for me, who says that the *long* ones go up front and are compressed by the weight of the motor, and the *short* ones go in the relatively unweighted back. From the sounds of it, the shop has them backwards.
