Take a look at this site and in particular to pictures 5160029 & 5160026. The first is the shot of the passengers side axle going into the tranny and the second is the drivers side going into the tranny. I was able to tap them in with some mild force and some patience. That grey metal piece sits firmly against the seal on the drivers side. However, there is a 1/2" gap between the black casing and the seal on the tranny, should that be there? I would assume so because everything went back together without any problems.

Please give me your input. I haven't driven it yet because I want to make sure you all think I have them in all the way!

Thanks!

Well Shumax, I'll have to crawl under mine to see about that driver side. Don't remember seeing that much space between the shaft and the seal. I'll take some picture and let you compare. Looked like you spilled some fluid:) Still don't know how some people do this job w/o spilling any fluid.

Is this a Raxles axle? I just replaced my driver's side axle with a Raxles. I remember there being a gap but I'm not sure it was as much as a 1/2 inch. I'll check in the morning when I change the oil.

i am unable to see the pics you have but there should not be any space between the joint and the tranny even if the axle does seal it could be sloppy inside the tranny and cause internal damage however if you have gaftermarket axles this may not apply

Autoxer7 would be the best one to judge this since he has the same axle as you do. I would think that if there's as much as 1/2 inch of gap, you would notice it when you put the wheel back on and car on the ground.

Well, I think that 1/2" is a bit much. It really is about 1/4" inch. I think that it's OK becausethe part that is sticking out looks like it should be---if that makes any sense?!:) What I mean is that it doesn't look like it could go in any further that it already has---the hole in the tranny wouldn't be big enough.

Anyway, please do post some pics so that I can compare. If you need me to, I can post more of my car too.

BTW, how have you liked your RAXLES axles? Any vibrations? How long have you had them?

Thanks!

I measured the gap at about a 1/4 inch. Have you filled the tranny with fluid yet? Because I was unsure of the gap I slowly ran the car in gear with the front elevated. I figured if the axle wasn't in the whole way it would start leaking right away.

I haven't noticed any difference with the Raxles axle compared to stock.

I've had it on the car for about a month now. I decided to replace the axle after tearing an inner CV boot at the Nat Convention a couple months ago in Phoenix.

I will be filling the tranny up tonight and testing it out. I had been waiting on the reverse switch---it just arrived.

I will probably go ahead and leave it on jacks and put it in gear to see what happens. I sure as heck hope that I don't start leaking my brand new REDLINE fluid all over---that will make me real mad.

Any suggestions for starting and running the car while it's on jack stands like that? I don't need to put the wheels back on, do I? I figure that leaving them off will make it easier for me to see if it's leaking. Once I know that it's not, I will put the wheels on and lower the car.

I am happy to hear that yours didn't cause a vibration. I am most concerned about that happening, to be honest.

Thanks again!

With the front wheels off the ground and the tranny in neutral start the car. Engage the clutch, slip the tranny into first, and then slowly let out the clutch... no need to give it any gas. With the car in 1st and the engine at idle speed the wheels (and axles) will slowly rotate.

Courtesy sent me the wrong reverse switch. Now I had to order one from Autozone. I have to imagine that it won't be the right one!

Anyone have a tranny switch for sale????

Needless to say, I didn't start the car tonight:(
