on my driver side i had a hard time tightning the top nut that holds the cap, when i tightened it, the strut spins, isn't there another easy way to do it?..

on the left side i had to use a vice grip to hold the strut and tighten the bolt on the cap.

this is my frist time installing new struts... so is there a way to tighten the top bolt without spinning the strut.....

:squint: remember this is my first time i ever installed struts,

the new struts are kyb.....

thanks'

impack gun with quick repeated hits. do not use vice grips on the shaft of a new strut it might mark them all up and who knows what that will do to seals inside.
usually most shocks will have the tip be squared off and its around a 8-10 mm

yea put another wrench on the top of the strut like i said its a 8 or 10 mm, holding this while tighting the bolt will get the shock tight enough in most cases

use the rubber tipped vice grips. I use them all the time with no problems. They even sell the rubber caps if you already have the vice grips.

If nothing else, you can tighten it after you drop the car back down. Shaft won't go anywhere then.

you can use vice grips on the shaft, it's what me and my buds do when workin on the suspension when a strut spins. You just need to wrap a shirt or towel around the shaft, then let the vice grips bite down onto it. We did this on my AGX numerous times, and never jacked up the shaft from the vice grips teeth.

Not true, ask me how I know....;)

Do what I did before I bought a corded impact....

take a shammie cloth, you for drying a car, make sure it is just a little damp.

Fold it over about 2 or 3 times to make sure it is thick.

Stuff it between the springs so it lays across the shaft.

Get the biggest set of Vise-Grips you can and make them so tight you almost not close them on the shaft.

Hold the Vise-Grips in one hand, tighten nut with other.

Works great.... ask me how I know....
