I have a 96 2.0 and have a serious problem. Shifted from redline in 3rd gear to 2nd and now I have 4 broken rocker arms and both cams are screwed bad. Here is my problem. I don’t know what else is wrong with the engine. It might be in my best interest to just do a swap because it will cost more labor money to go on a search mission and find out if everything else is ok. Is it cheaper to just to do a swap or should I fix what is wrong? Also does anyone know a good place to source a quality sr20de? Any ideas?:(

Hmm. If you just broke 4 rockers and need new cams, it will be close. You can get a set of JWT s3 or s4 cams for $560 - I think each rocker arm is around $16 from the dealer but I'm not sure. I could be way off there.

But if you did more damage, a JDM swap is probably a better idea. You're looking around $800-$1000 with labor for the engine, unless you do it yourself. I've seen JDM SR20's for around $550.

Is the JDM sr20de better than the american one or is it the same? I saw a picture of one on ebay and it looked different. Will after market parts fit on the jdm engine?

You might be in luck. If you can be sure cams and rockers are the only damage, let me know. I just swapped to '92 cams in my '97 200sx, and I had thought my rockers might be worn. So I swapped them, too. They aren't, or at least not much. If you need them, I can send them and my stock cams to you. You cover shipping costs, otherwise free. Just don't need them taking up space.

JDM SR20DE makes 10hp over the standard version.

I am done the same thing and I may be able to help you out with parts, ( I have an engine sitting in my garage) or I might be able to help you out with the labor.

i did the same thing when i got my ser for the first time. just got to learn how to shift her. Fix the rockers (20 each) and get some 91 cams (100) and you will be set.
