: What size intercoolers for a B14 are you guys running? Any PICS?
4doored SE-R 01-22-2007, 09:47 PM What size intercooler are you B14 guys running? I've been searching on what size intercooler to get, but needed some personal preferences. Basically, I don't mind trimming a little on the support and bumper to get a nice & clean fit. I just don't want to end up doing major hacking to fit an oversized intercooler.
I want to get a good size intercooler to support up to 350hp and don't want to spend over $250. Whats reasonable with my 300+hp goal and without fitment issues?
I was thinking for intercooler size(not core size) 26"-30" length, 6"-8" tall, and 2.75"-3" thick. Is this overkill or does it sound about right? Any bad experiences or stories about ebay intercoolers lately? What do you guys think,I was looking at these:

Sorry, I just want to do things right the first time and need some input. Pictures would be nice too so I as well as other members can get an idea of how some intercoolers fit in regards to size and to trimming/hacking. TIA...

ebay, never had a problem with it , worked well. iirc it was 32x12x3
NaLLa8705 01-23-2007, 12:43 AM Damn thats big... i am rockin a 26ish x 6ish x 3ish like you stated. More than big enough and looks pretty good in the front bumber. I had to trim a very smal amount from the support and got rid of the vertical lines in the bumper. Also, i had to trim a little bit from the bottom part of the bumper as well.
swiss 01-23-2007, 10:33 PM How about very small:

Octave236 01-24-2007, 12:02 PM The way I see it, unless your just pushing ALOT of power, the 6-8 inch (short and long) IC should be fine. That way you dont have to hack a big hole in the bumper. Makes it look alot cleaner and these intercoolers are effecient (sp) and more than effective.
Mine is exactly like this, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...068106237&rd=1 its your second listing up top. Fits my NX just fine and I believe I have less room for an IC then a B14.

I think i'll be getting the same one too. How long have you had it and how's it holding up? Just asking because some guys on here frown on ebay intercoolers but some of them don't look so bad. I didn't know about the craftmanship and if they leaked(bad welds) or what not.
Thanks alot for the input guys, i really aprreciate it.
Octave236 01-24-2007, 03:49 PM Ive had it 11.5 months and pressure check all the time. Never a problem with the IC.

what type of paint are u using on the ic?
Octave236 01-29-2007, 02:38 PM Its just a radiator paint. It has chipped a lil cause I really didnt prep. it. Once I get the car painted Im thinking of some type of gloss paint or powder coating technique.

I don't know where it came from (previous owner), but it is pretty thick. I can probably take some measurements of the core.

I used high-temp paint because I already had it around. I don't think it matters what kind of paint you use. The paint doesn't go very far into the air passages (1-2mm tops) which is where the actual cooling is taking place. Testing has found that paint has very little effect on the cooling properties of an intercooler. It's posted on here somewhere.
