: Cleaning EGR

Has anyone cleaned out their EGR. I've read the write up on se-r.net, but my question is.....how do you clean out the metal tube under the BPT valve. I tried a coat hanger, but it was obviously too stiff. Is there something more flexible, but rigid enough to clean it out. Is it true that if your EGR is working properly that you should be able to feel the exhaust gases coming out of the metal tube..........cause I don't feel squat coming out of mine. Thanks in advance.

Dtyne,
wrote this up months ago, hope it helps.

there is a rubber tube that connects to the bottom of the EGR BPT, pull it, if you do not feel an air pulsation then the metal tube that connects it to the intake manifold is clogged.

in order to get to the assembly and turn it around to clean the clogged metal line:

* i also had to remove the PAIR assembly to get to the tube connected to the #4 exhaust primary

you might want to do some stretching before doing this (my back still hurts)

first disconnect the EGR tube (i do not know exactly what to call this since it is connected to the intake manifold then to the actual smaller EGR tube) that is connected to the #4 exhaust primary, then unbot the 2 bolts that (12MM if i remember right, also use a 1/4 ratchet w/ 1/2" extention to get to these tight areas) connect the EGR Tube to the Intake Manifold then to the metal line leading to the EGR BPT, then there is an 8MM bolt that connects the Metal line to the EGR BPT. once all bolts are taken out you might also have to disconnect the white ball throttle thingy to be able to turn the assembly toward you so you can clean the part that connects to the intake manifold.

i just did mine and it was clogged full of black soot, get some carb cleaner and spray onto the metal tube coming from the EGR BPT then spray/soak repeat several times, get a needle then start looking into the part that goes into the Intake manifold, the hole leading to the EGR BPT metal line will be clogged it's about the size bigger than a diameter of a paper clip stick a pin/paper clip in there and break away the crud buid-up. spray some more carb cleaner to thoroughly clean the passageways and let the cleaner evaporate before reassembly.
