Is the BB ECU ok to use for a budget turbo setup, either on a DET, or a DE using all BB parts? I've read opinions on both sides of the fence, but nothing conclusive. I find it hard to believe that, at least in the case of a DET, there'd be a problem since the ECU is made for the engine in the first place.
If you're looking at $1500 or so for a DET, and want to keep everything relatively stock (at least until you get bored with stock boost, and the limitations inherent in the T25 and BB injectors etc...), then shelling out another $575 or whatever a JWT ECU costs is a large chunk of change.
How much boost can you run on a T25 DET with a BB ECU, running a front mounted TMIC, through a 2.5" exhaust system? And what kind of horespower would it produce?
Thanks,
Chris

Some MAF sensors that originally came on Sentras work with BB ECUs, some do not. I suppose one could put a BB ECU on the SE-R's harness and get it to work regardless. People using BB ECUs in non-BB platforms sometimes have trouble, sometimes do not, so this is probably why nobody's responded to this aspect of your question.
I don't see why you couldn't run 12PSI of boost with a T25 on a DE bottom end, but you probably wouldn't want to. The turbine side of a T25 doesn't flow very well, and could induce reversion at that kind of boost. A full bar is all but out of the question; some people have done this, but they all had low-compression bottom ends, so you'd want to be very careful, watching your EGT and water temperature like a hawk. Using real gauges, too; not these Mickey Mouse C <-> H in-dash water temp gauges. Detonation sucks, so take it easy.
I believe that you can make more power with a DE bottom end than a DET bottom end with any given compressor, but you need to keep an eye on your temps, again. BB bottom ends with T25s and boost controllers frequently hit 220 at the wheels. More power than that needs a turbo upgrade, and a GTi-R T28/exhaust manifold is a great way to do it. Either way, I'd only run with a BB ECU long enough to get your SE-R's computer back from JWT with a proper fuel/spark map upgrade.

i have thought about this and the general consensous is that it is somehow a "band aid" to the engine management issue, which I really don't understand.... if the ECU is MADE for the motor, why would it not work? a TON of 240 DET guys are runnin around with a rewired KA harness and DET ECU with no problem whatsoever..... i have even read that the JWT ecu in that car performs worse than the DET ECU, maybe the same applies to our cars?

I myself would also like to know the answer as I'm going turbo **** now!
