Hello Guys,

ok, question time

1) I heard that there is something called a knock sensor ( I am not sure what it is) that can be altered together with timing that increases the hp of the engine. Is this true or was I being conned?

2) Fuel Pressue regulators - a few years back, there was talk about this also adding to performance improvements, you guys got any news on this?

3) Simple question for you, which is a better header to have installed (not brands but structure), a 4 to 2 to 1 or a 4 to 1 ?

That's all for now guys,

Later,

PS. Thanks to Stiletto for putting up the pics of my Sentra up on the Memebers ride section, now you have a clear pic of what the South African Nissan Sentra looks like.

My twisted thoughts are as follows......... hmmmmmmm
No need to mess with the knock sensor. The SR20DE ones are not overly sensitive. What it does is pick up the vibration of evil knock in the engine from super nasty detonation. Then it retards the timing to stop knock and to reduce the fun power your car might have plus increasing temp. Just advance the timing anywhere from 17 degrees to 21. I have always read that 19 advanced is the best and safest. Anyone else want to throw in a word on this one?
Don't bother with the fuel pressure reg. If your SR20DE is a high port (low throttle body) intake, then your engine tends to run rich anyway. The Jim Wolf chip actually leans the car out quite a bit to gain power. Do the chip and no need to mess with adjusting and fiddling.
Now "the best header design" question is a loaded one for these engines. Common header rules are thrown out the window with the SR20DEs. The testing of the different brands revealed that 4-1 vs 4-2-1 made very little difference while primary pipe diameter etc... did make a difference. I think you know which headers to buy. ;) They are very nice and feel great from low RPM into high RPM!

Hi,

I am bit embarrased to ask this cos it seems like general knowledge from the posts that I have read so far, but it seems like I have to ask.

How can I tell if I have a high port or low port SR20DE?

I did search this forum and se-r.net but I didn't have any luck (yet) , I could have just been blind. Please don't laugh at me for that. I did read a lot of posts that say the high port is better, but now I need to know how to recognise it. The Engine is a South African 98 Sentra Release so, I would assume that it should be the same as your guys 98 Sentra sr20de releases as well.

The closest that I came to working with a car engine was, changing radiator hoses, oil and a bit brake stuff. I am a computer programmer so you can guess why the stupid questions from me at times...

Thanks,

Mervyn G

On the back of the block is a small black cylindrical device beside the starter to the right. It should have a wire leading off of it into the harness. That is your knock sensor. Don't mess with it. If you drop it, replace it. The ga16 and ka24(probably all Nissans) use the same sensor.

Get a hotshot header. They are by far the best bang for your buck.

SR20's don't need FPR. The MAF compensates for any increase in volumetric efficiency, and adjust the fuel pressure as well. Honda's need FPR because the motor can't adjust for increases in VE.

If your throttle body is close to even with the valve cover you have a low port motor. The throttle body is down below the valve cover on a high port motor.
