: oil on spark plugs,,,,help
se-rious200 05-19-2002, 12:14 AM ok guys here is my problem,i went to change my plugs and wires and noticed oil on them and my friend said its probly my valve cover gasket, possibly,i think its either oil rings or guides.please give me some advice,or tell me if any of you ever had this problem.
thanks guys
Crono1321 05-19-2002, 01:00 AM Your friend is most likely right. I had the problem. Change your spark plug gaskets. Not that expensive. I think they are under $10 a piece. I replaced them and then there was no more leaking!
cossieturbo 05-19-2002, 02:03 AM I agree. that's the problem.

se-rious200 05-19-2002, 01:12 PM thanks guys,i really appriecate your help and thats what i'm goin to do.i'm just goin to replace the whole valve cover gasket set-up (valve cover gasket and all spark plug gaskets.)I just got extra valve covered polished so do it when i put that on.

Crono1321 05-19-2002, 11:53 PM Thats cool I am polishing mine now. My car has been out of commission for a week, but it is SOOO worth it. My vc looks chrome, and I only spend around $10 for materials.
se-rious200 05-21-2002, 12:01 AM yeahman,it'll look phat,i actually found a guy in california, kaleidoscope polishing, hes doin it for me for $50 plus shipping, the good thing is i'll have it back in 3-4 business days.its a spare valve cover that i had from my old motor.i'll probly send that out to get polished once i get my other polished one back.

Since I had a similar "issue" maybe you can shed some light in my case too!
Did they look anything like that?

I'll chime in on this. I had the same problem. For a temporary fix, I put Autolites in my G20. I took them out within a few weeks to install the NGK's that I had ordered.
There was a little oil on the threads and only the threads. The oil had seaped in from the engine, NOT the rocker cover gasket.
This also happened on my '91 NX2000 with the NGK's. It had over 123,000 miles on it when I sold it and it is still running strong as far as I know.
That oil seapage is common, not damaging, and should not be of any concern to you or your engine.
By the way, I contacted King Turd (George Roffe) directly in regards to this and he had stated the same thing to me back when I noticed the seapage on my G20.
The burnt spots on the ceramic seem browner than normal though. What heat range did you purchase? I am using BKR6E's - V-power coppers. If I were to use the plats I would use the PFR6B-11's.
hpro123 05-21-2002, 08:55 AM Thanks for the reply Brandon.
These above were the plugs a Nissan Service Center put in my SR20 a year and 10K miles ago.
They are BKR6EY (what the Y stands for I have no idea but visually I think the insulator+tip was a bit longer than on the plain BKR6E).
I changed them to standard BKR6E and this is when I noticed the "burn" marks on the outside as seen on the pics. Since I had never anything like it before (and it was like that on ALL the plugs) I filled it for future "questioning".
The burn marks were definitely "oil-based" and they are simple surface deposits, I can nail-scratch it clean very easily. Since the engine side of the plugs was in mint condition I did not give it much thought but still... were did it come from???

That, I can not answer. Just don't know. Sorry!
But I will tell you this. When a fuel injector goes bad and there is no combustion in the chamber, oil will seap into the threads. So, if by chance your engine is not supplying enough spark/fuel mixture to burn properly, a little oil would seap through there.
That is my best attempt at being technical.
