: Tightening up the steering

How do I go about tightening up the steering? It seems a little loose, not as firm as I like it to be. I had the same problem with my old 92 Escort GT. The steering was wonderful when it was new, then later it had too much play. Do I just replace the bushing, or do I have to replace some other parts too? Thank guys/gals.

Here's a "work around." (But it may be too $$$)

Get a smaller raduis MOMO steering wheel. I bought one for pure aesthetics.

But the smaller radius reduces the lever effect and increases the resistance.

It was a really good side-effect. It makes the car feel that much tighter.

I'd love to put in Momo, but I don't wanna lose the airbag!!! Knock on wood here, if I ever get into accident, then I'll replace the steering wheel then. But let's hope we won't have to come to that:D

New ball-joints, ES front suspension bushings, and better tires might help.

If you're adventurous, maybe tie-rod ends?

You might have seen that ES makes a steering rack bushing set, but it's nothing substantial - two wimpy hoops of uretane. I wouldn't bother unless I had the rack out.

I think I'll try that this summer.

With my new impacts tools, I am feeling very adventurous :D

BFG HR4 on stock rim, think they're pretty good. Thank.
