Hey guys, I just got back from another So-Cal Dyno Day. Once again, everything went smoothly, and I'd like to thank Mike Kojima, Rob Cadle, Thomas Fox and Carlos Gutierrez for setting up another beautiful day!

Well on to the fun stuff :) Unfortuntaely I left my dyno chart at my friends house, but here are the rough results from the end of the day. This is with full exhaust, 3" from the downpipe back.

8-10 psi = 250 whp
18psi = 350 whp
22 psi = 380 whp

I was very pleased with the results. Once again the SR20DE in stock longblock form has shown it can take some serious HP numbers. Another interesting tidbit, the car still maintains the stock ignition, we had the plugs gapped down to .021, with no misfire. With the plug gap @ .026, we had some serious misfire.

I took the car out and romped on it through a few empty streets while the tank was nice and full of C16. WOOOOHOOO, the car is a goddamn rocket ship. At 18 psi, the tires are right on the edge of breaking loose but are scrambling forward at an incredible rate of speed. The whole front end of the car begins to lift. Anyone out there with this setup (I know there are alot of you), please be careful!! That's all, any questions let me know!

Nice #s!
What size turbo do you have?(t3/t04e-? turbine, ? compressor housings)
Chris

Whoops-found the size of your turbo in a different post. Nice #s though.

i call bullshit! :D

when're you gonna go MSD Frank? see if you can break 400 whp without water!

Good numbers Frank!

That's just beautiful. How are your cams set? Did you fiddle with them at all today, or just make straight pulls?

Good job frank.

Thanks guys. (well all except for you T25 boy) :)

I don't have the adjustable cam gears, but when I get them, Mike says he would like to retard the exhaust cam 1 degree. That should net me another 10 hp or so. With the addition of an MSD and some wider plug gaps, I should pick up some more HP as well.

Ryan N., I didn't gain the 42hp you did from your JWT cams. Did you install the cam gears at the same time and mess with the settings? I think I saw an improvement of about 20-30hp.

No cam gears... just installed them and went to dyno. It was an improvement of 51hp for me. Whats your A/F ratio look like. My car had a good 11.9 - 12.1 A/F ratio at 21psi. Next dyno day in CA I will try to make it too. I figured out the wiring problems as well.

Frank,

When Mike said he would retard your exhaust cam 1 deg
was he planning on doing anything to the intake cam? Interesting he said retard. I always thought the concensous was advance exhaust and retard intake. But i guess if your shooting for hope and not lobe seperation it wouldnt apply the same?I would like to know as i was planning on advancing my exhaust cam only and see how that works with my s3's.

hey! i resemble that!

actually, i am planning on going to the dark side soon. first come the 50 lb/hr injectors and matching flow meter (probably the Z32 TT) and then the T3/T4 would be easily justifiable.

before i know it, i am just as deep into the shithouse as you are!

I think that's because you had a high-lift Primera intake cam instead of the shitty B14 cams, IIRC.

I had the 91 intake cam in my car and then I switched to the S3's

Acutally I think Rob's right. I now remember when we measured the size of the lobes at Mike's house, and he said my primera intake cam was WAY bigger than a 91 intake cam. IIRC, he said it was between a JWT s1 and s2 cam.

Even though, it was well worth the 20 extra hp, and the car now pulls STRONg all the way to redline, instead of tapering off like it did before. I'm still jealous of you're 51hp gain of course :)

Larry, I may be wrong about what Mike said, I guess I didn't concentrate on the exact procedure, because I knew I would not be buying the cam gears for another few months :( So don't go by what I wrote.

Steve, you're going the T3/T4 route? What happened to the GT series turbo? Does the bluebird manifold even flow that well, or will you have to switch to the GTI-R manifold?

Cool Frank i was just curious. I have been planning to do the cam gears for a while just lazy . Maybe i can get L.M. to help me out...yah right! =)

Advancing the exhaust cam will help spoolup time but retarding the exhaust cam will result in more top end Frank. Just keep that in mind.

Congrats Frank! But shit.. I wonder where you got those cams from.. Do you still have the 6A sitting in that box in your room?

Frank,

Actually, i think i am gonna hold off on a new turbo until the turbo from the Disco Potato is released.

i will upgrade to the GTiR manifold. i have an avenir manifold, which may accept a T28 without modification, but the GTiR flows better. and a manifold is only like $250, new.

in the meantime, i will get a Z32 MAF and 50 lb'ers. most likely 3 bar though. it should be able to support enough power for me. for now...

Great numbers Frank... Just where I'd predicted mine would be at 10psi.

BTW, when boosting at 10psi (which I just started doing a couple of weeks ago thanks to Greddy Boost Controller) I noticed last week that at about 6800-7000 there is a surge dropoff of power. I didn't remember ever noticing it before, but on the other hand I don't turn it up to 10 very much. I have the stock ignition and also installed S3 cams at the same time as the controller and have new PFR6G platinum plugs gapped at .025". So am I experiencing misfire? I would've thought misfire would have been popping loud and distinct as I have heard other car's do on dyno's...

Also I was also thinking that my flat spot between 2-3k when cold (goes away after warmup usually 1-2 minutes) could also be the fact that I am running colder than stock plugs with a tight gap. When we spoke about this at the convention Frank you mentioned to me it was prolly my o2 well, bzzzzt! replaced it when I put in the cams and controller. (Had to because the old one was cross threaded in the old downpipe). I installed my new Fmax downpipe that weekend as well...

PS BTW I decided after wrestling with that &*!@# downpipe install and o2 I think I will NEVER put in leaded race gas for fear I have to replace the o2... I have no MIL's, never have and don't want any ever. :)

50lb injectors should feed 400 HP, the D/P turbo is maxed at around 300 (well, IIRC, anyway); should be great. That's actually pretty similar to what I want, except that it's not going to happen any time soon. ;)
