You can use a standard tranny on a VE, no need for anything special.

True, and replace your clutch while you do it. May as well get something that won't slip on you. I did a ton of reading on the VE when I was going through my decision to go with one or not. Use the search button and start reading. There's a wellspring of information on this forum. Anything you need to know about anything VE, that search button is your best friend, as well as the actual VE section. Read up on the FAQ's and all the items labelled with a (!) and that will answer most, if not all, your questions. The rest of it is stuff you can read through other people's q's and a's.

I'd get the SR16 tranny. The gear ratio's are closer vs the old DE trans with a dead LSD.
