I just swapped a new auto trans into my g20 and I am leaking tranny fluid from in between the block and the transmission which I don't quite understand. Reason being is being I had the torque converter on the transmission about 1/2" deep before putting on the engine and then when putting on engine the torque plate makes up the 1/2" when bolting them together so I don't see how there would be a leak. Unless... If I overfilled it would that have caused a leak? I didn't think so but am trying to be optimistic here since I don't want to pull the friggin thing apart again :(

It should not be leaking unless there is a leak somewhere. However if you did over fill it I have seen fluid come from wierd places. Some master tech once told me there is a hole for it to come out of if you over fill it. I am not really sure about our transmissions though. I would make sure you didn't over fill it, and if you did just let it leak for a little and check again.
Let me know what happens with this. I am very interested to see what it is.

I am pretty sure I put it a little under 7qts plus the 1 and 1/8 in the converter that the fsm states to do. I know there is a vent tube on the top of the trans that runs up by the intake but don't think that is for fluid. I did try checking the fluid level but I wasn't getting a reading at all, the whole stick was covered past the hot line. :eek2:

Hmm I finally got a reading after letting it sit for a bit and starting it back up and it shows it is past full on the hot mark so maybe I did overfill it :/

Funny thing... one time I was doing a transmission flush and the machine pump broke and just kept filling the transmission and not pulling any old fluid out. ATF was spewing everywhere under the car and I thought I blew the tranny or something!
But it was just overfilling the transmission. But if things are looking good now I would just keep an eye out. As the ATF heats up it will expand and you may have more come out.

Alright big negative on the overfill. Drove around today and the fluid level is right at the cold line and I went through 1/4 tank of gas. SO looks like I will be pulling it all apart again, I think I may have not put the torque converter in all the way and that is why it is leaking. Thing that confuses me is that looking at my old trans with the tc on I don't see how it would even bolt up to the engine if the tc wasn't installed right on the trans but that is all I can think happened.

Holy shit got the bitch out within a couple hours and it is 27* out, goddamn what a trip. THe tc looks like it is on properly though so I will have to scope the seal tomorrow when it is warmer.
