: Gen5 HS Header (Dyno Results)

Yesterday at the SoCal Dyno Day, held at R & D Dyno Service, my NX went from 140 HP to 151 with the HotShot Gen 5 headers!

EVERYONE was surprised by that! Darren (The shop owner) went over my Dyno graph. My motor has gained everywhere on the rpm band.

I had been hoping to gain 4 - 5 HP with the header, but 11, even Mike Kojima and Rob Cadle was surprised.

Time to start saving for the JWT ECU with S3 cam program!

Keep use posted bloke. I'll throw my Gen4 HS away if these Gen5s work out.

The difference between the Gen4 and Gen5 is in fitment and quality control.

The Gen5 header flnge has been C-N-C'd so it fits better. HP gains should be close, if not the same.

That's very interesting. My Gen4 HS had to go to a machine shop to be planed flat and every mating area resurfaced because they had lots of little deep groves and nothing was flat. Some one did not finish them properly. Cost me $60. I hate HS for letting this set get loose on the market & I stopped boasting about their quality. Tough to recommend now.

Well looks like I'll be calling hotshot today to get a replacement header becuase mines is still under warranty and the current header has a leaky flex pipe. Great dyno results though. I'm hoping for similar results.

Wow!, that is definitely a GOOD result. Definitely keep us posted Thomas. In about a month I will be in the market for a header for my NX2K.

I can't comment on your header, as I haven't seen it.
My Gen5 fit properly the FIRST time.
BTW, I'm using a exhaust manifold gasket from a 2000 Sentra SE. That gasket is metal and provides a excellent seal between the header and cylinder head.

I have taken pictures of my header install. So when I get those developed and scanned, I'll do a brief write up on the Club NX.

Subculture, can you give me some more details on mods done to your car. What headers where you using before? This Gen5 sounds very promising! Thanks for the update

Monty

Click the link underneath my sig.

I was using the $tillen 4into1 header.:o

This Gen5 sounds very promising!
I don't think there is a better header for the FWD SR20DE!

Yeah, I clicked on your sig after I posted, but thanks for the response.

Is there anyone else that has dyno numbers with the Hotshot Gen5 header installed?

hang on a sec thomas, i remember you ran 140 hp before your power steering eliminator kit and you said that gave you 2 hp, so you would have been running 142hp meanning a gain of 9hp. still impressive though how much???

I paid $420.00 plus tax from Mike Jurado (superiornissanph.com) (800 854-7772) at Superior Nissan. I recieved the SERCA discount.

No. My car made 138HP BEFORE the RTR P/S Eliminator kit was installed!
The RTR P/S Eliminator kit freed up 2HP. Which put my car at 140HP prior to the Gen5 HS header installation.

"Subculture" You posted about the Sentra SE 2000 gasket being metal, but i'm wondering how well matched are the holes on it to the size of the block? My factory one (93NX) is smaller in diameter then the exit ports on the head so I ordered a Mr. Gasket copper one a while ago. It's been used a few times. I matched it up nicely to the head. Just had to remove a very small amount of copper. I'll re-torque the bolts and see what happens.

The 2000 SE gasket matched up fine. In fact, using the 2000 SE gasket was suggested to me by Aaron LeBeau who has a F-Maxx turbo on his "Classic". No fitment issues there either.

BTW, metal gaskets (be they Copper or otherwise) are a "crush" fit. So if you remove the header for any reason, you won't be able to reuse the gasket without it leaking.
I have an extra metal gasket just for that reason.

Was this the dyno runs that where to be used to test the CAI theory? Just wondering if you did a pull with a CAI versus WAI?

Did you lose any low-end torgue with the header? Just wondering I have a 5th Generation on the way.

No, that was the LAST Dyno Day.
Unfortunately I didn't have a chance as there were so many cars (41 cars!).
This last Dyno Day, My car turned out to be the last car, and Darren (Owner of R & D Dyno) wasn't about to work past quitting time.

Did you lose any low-end torgue with the header?
No. My car GAINED torque.

Here's the numbers:
With $tillen header - 140HP/129.6Torque

With the Gen5 HS header - 151.3HP/134.8Torque
And the torque curve is flatter than before.

BTW, anybody know the best way to post a Dyno print out?
