: New to Turbos

I'm kinda new to the the turbo thing. I have 98 se-r with an f-max turbo kit. It has 370cc injectors, and a stock fuel pump. I'm just curious how much boost is safe to run. I have the JWT tuned computer but I'm not sure what the program is. Thanks in advance for any help. The bottom end is stock and I have 83000 miles on the motor. Again thanks.

Alright I haven't recieved a reply to my question so I'm gonna try some more questions. I just went to the track yesterday and to say the least I'm not the best driver. However during one of my runs in second gear right around 5500 rpm my car died on me, it picked back up and ran, and then in third gear it did the same thing. I went 15.6. I did that stock. Now I'm looking at the fuel pump. Could this be the problem. I've also had people tell me it could be the plugs. Any suggestions there. What kind, gap anything. After that embarassing run, I turned the boost down to 8 (from 10) and the car ran fine. Any ideas??? Best time so far is 14.2. I'm looking for mid to low 13's. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

be careful man, a large turbo and 370s are a recipe for a catastrophic lean condition, the t3/t04 has a WAY higher limit than those injectors, you need to get a walbro, and 50 or 72 lb injectors

Ok, I priced the pump, what about the injectors, any recomendations as to brand. Do I have to do any mods to put them in. What about the ECU any problems there? Like I said I'm new to this. The car seems to be running fine now. Again thanks for any help.

well i think most people use the MSD injectors, and with those you need to get a new fuel rail, either the FTF or the JWT, maybe someone with firsthand experinence can chime in here:D

I've done some more looking around and now have more questions. I know that the F-max kit comes with a JWT computer. Is the program specific to the kit or is it a generic program? Does anyone have any experience with this kit? Will I need to upgrade the maf? If I do all of this do I have to send the computer out again? I need serious help here. Thanks.

Here's what's needed:
JWT Fuel rail (FTF is on indefinite backorder) $225 from sr20development.
MSD 50lb injectors. about $300-350 depending on where you get them.
Walbro 255 lph Fuel pump $130
Cobra MAF with wiring harness. Got mine for $150 used, but they're usually about $300.
JWT ECU reprogramed $100 and 4-8 weeks. The ECU is specifically programed for your specs. (ex: 9.5:1 compression, stock MAF, TB, 370 cc inj, 3Bar fuel program, etc...)
Might wanna think of an MSD Ignition, too. $250-350.

Hope this helps. (maybe you shoulda looked into a stage 2 when you bought the kit)

Did you purchase the car with the Turbo kit on it already? Not that im knocking your knowledge ( you yourself stated that your new to the turbo thing on your first post ) but you are asking some pretty basic questions. I agree with RaSER X's recommendation on what parts you'll need. Im currently running the 370's and stock fuel pump on my turbo 200 and im only running a T28 at stock boost. Even with this setup up..if I were to turn up the boost a few pounds Im seriously risking maxing out the injectors and MAF. Plus remember with the bigger injectors, MAF, Fuel pump, and of course reprogrammed ECU..you'll be able to run more boost safely on your setup.:D

First of all, at stock boost, you don't have to worry about maxing out 370cc injectors. You need to get a higher flowing fuel pump in there. Don't touch your boost controller.

close the gap to at least .030" maybe .025"

if you are running the stock 0.040" gap, you will misfire like crazy without MSD.

Terrin,
Response to my post or 98turboblue?

Both of you. A few lbs of boost is a big difference.

No offense taken to any replies. I just put new plugs in and at .025 the car was missing. I had to bring the gap up to about .033 in order to get this to stop. With the new plugs the car is running strong again. I've got the boost back down to 8 psi. I don't intend to turn it up again until I get more fuel to it. I do have another dumb question though. Is it possible to get the fuel pump and injectors and use an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. I would send the computer out but I just don't have four to eight weeks to wait for it to get programmed. If this is not possible do you know where I can get an ECU to send to JWT. Once again I appreciate any help, and sorry for the dumb questions. Also does anyone know of any shops in Maryland with sr20 experience? Oh by the way, I had the turbo put on unfortunately I still don't have a full understanding of them.

Check a local salvage yard. If you send JWT a regular ecu they are going to charge you $500+ for a whole new program and daughterboard. Schaeffer Imports in Lisbon, MD is very good, but I'd take my car to Rosen Auto in Richmond, VA. They have a 10:1 classic w/Fmax kit, 2 or 3 se-r race cars, and years of knowledge and experience. Well worth the drive.

Thanks for all the help. I just got my fuel pump today. I'll probably put it in this weekend. Its gonna be a while for the injectors though.
