: Floorjacks
My Sears Craftsman floorjack sucks. At first it was easy to modulate and went up nice ad high. Now, after only 2 years, it is VERY hard to softly go from not moving to slowly lowering the car, and it can't go up quite as high as it used to. First question: can I recondition it? I have no idea how to check it's condition. Second question: have other peopl with Sears Craftsman floorjacks (this is the gray one) had the same issues? Third question: anyone had a floorjack for a long time that still works perfect? What brand? How much?
james vick 05-20-2002, 11:55 PM Yea i've had a snapon for 10 years or so. Works like new but I don't wanna know how much they cost now. I can find out for ya though. It'll even get under lowered import's.:D
98sr20ve 05-21-2002, 12:20 AM I hate jacks. My sears lasted less then a year. Most jacks come from tiawan or something. Get a Lincoln or another american made jack. I bought a Lincoln a little while ago. Paid way to much but got a 5 year warranty. Better then buying a new one every year. Cost was under $300. I try and forget things I don't like. The price of this jack was one of those things.

Fosters 05-21-2002, 12:26 PM I'm on my 2nd Craftsman jack. The 1st lasted about 1.5 years, and that is not using it that often. I had a friend of mine exchange it for me - he works for Sears. I've had this one about a year. It is one of the smaller ones. I talked to Sears about rebuild kits for the jacks, and I don't think they offer a kit - which surprised me and my dad. I think my next jack will probably be something diff't, but I'm hoping this one holds out for a little longer.

jomama 05-22-2002, 12:09 PM i would take the jack back to sears and try to get it exchanged. the way customer service works these days, you'd be surprised at the things you can return! i know this is only a temporary solution, but worth a shot!
Benito Malito 05-22-2002, 12:09 PM Changing the fluid got me another year out of my cheap taiwan jack.
Now it busted somewhere else.
Make them take it back, they probably will.
98sr20ve 05-22-2002, 12:25 PM The sears jacks don't have a lifetime warranty. They aren't about to give that warranty to a crappy product. Obviosly, they know they are selling a poor quality product.

MaddMatt 05-22-2002, 01:04 PM After ~ 5-6 years of just crappy performance from my Sears jack, it somehow found it's way into the trash. I recieved an Allied jack, also made in Tiawan, for a Christmas present. It's an extremely heavy duty jack (3 1/4 ton) but I expect it to crap out ina year or two. When it does, I'm going to suck it up and get a Lincoln or Snap-on.
ak555 05-22-2002, 05:28 PM Sears jack = sux0rz. Mine broke at the track leaving me to change wheels/brakes with my sissors jack. No more of those for me.
Problem is that no one sells quality jacks in the common autoparts stores. Lincoln is nice if you can afford one. Try Costo/SamsClub, sometimes they sell decent ones there (including lincoln jacks).
Black93 05-23-2002, 10:02 AM ive had my jack for a year and its like new... ive got alot of use out of it. Cross my fingers but the only problem ive had with it is the nut that holds the wheels on has fallen of once or twice, nothing a lil loctite cant fix. did i mention that my mom accidentally dumped out half the hydraulic fluid on the groundwhen she backed the lowering screw all the way out. i replaced that fluid with brake fluid and never looked back :D

I am not sure that all the Lincoln jacks are USA made. Check to be sure.

madburner 05-23-2002, 12:19 PM I have a Canadian Tire floorjack for the past 6-7 years. I've used it a lot every year and it still works like new. Oh yeah, and it can get under lowered imports too ;) !
Chris93SER 05-23-2002, 06:27 PM I have a rather new black Sears floor-jack (under a year old). It's been used countless times and still works like new. I just used it two days ago when I rotated my tires.
ak555 05-24-2002, 04:08 AM I dunno if Lincoln jacks are USA made. Why does that matter?
They used to sell relabelled lincoln jacks at pep boys but I haven't seen one recently.

Because the American ones are made better and are the ones that last. The import jacks have a very short life. YMMV

focus 05-24-2002, 10:18 AM I have had my cheapy jack for 13 years. Picked up my shed in the dirt with it.Placed all kinds of side loads on it and it still works. The only thing I have to do is add a little fluid and bleed it every now and then.
