: Tranny Removal Question
joeangel 02-11-2007, 06:06 PM Okay guys quick question. I have started the clutch replacement process. We have unbolted all the tranny bolts. The tranny is loose and moves around. At the bottom of the engine, near the lower motor mount, there appears to be a hangup on the bracket in the below picture. We have looked all around that bracket and it doesn't seem like there is anymore bolts. Anyone have any Idea where where this is getting hung up?

veilside180sx 02-11-2007, 06:09 PM How many bolts did you take out of the rear motor mount bracket?
wildmane 02-11-2007, 06:10 PM There might be a bolt near the rear mount that goes through the engine plate and into the transmission. If the engine plate and tranny are still connected together, you won't be able to pull off the transmisison with out the plate getting stopped by the flywheel. That might be the case.... otherwise, I don't know.

3 14mm bolts
Johnny wangwang 02-11-2007, 06:12 PM Pull the tranny strait back and it should clear all of that. Then just drop it down.
I cant really see what your saying its getting hung up on...if it cant be dropped because of that bracket thing on the crossmeber for some reason then just drop the crossmember. Its only 4 more bolts
joeangel 02-11-2007, 06:12 PM engine plate
Can you clarify? is this the block plate?

We were thinking about the cross member. We can drop this but I wasn't sure if we had to do this to be able to remove the tranny....

I swear I remember there being four. Theres one thats really hidden and you really have to stick your finger in there to find it. Once you feel it youll know where it is and youll see it.
Johnny wangwang 02-11-2007, 06:15 PM You dont HAVE to drop the cross memeber. But it makes it easier to me

Johnny,
Do you have an idea what rough area it may be? is it near the cross member bracket that is around that motor mount?
Johnny wangwang 02-11-2007, 06:27 PM I cant really describe it. But you have to take your exstension and socket and go through the bracket to the other side and the bolt is right there.
I missed that bolt on my Clutch swap when I did it and also on Nalla8705's clutch when I did his....its crazy easy to miss
joeangel 02-11-2007, 07:31 PM I found it, thanks Johnny. Wow, that SOB bolt was VERY WELL HIDDEN!
lukamccloud 02-11-2007, 08:38 PM it's a hidden bolt in the motor mount bracket. it's kinda tricky to see. it's up toward the top of the bracket through a hole on the passengers side of the bracket.
sounds to me like that's your problem.
joeangel 02-11-2007, 11:01 PM All you guys where a huge help! I appreciate all the quick responses.
I must say a clutch install wasn't as bad as I was thinking. Today we got the tranny broken loose and off. Should wrap this up tomorrow. I can't wait to feel the new flywheel.
crznx2000 02-11-2007, 11:07 PM hehe, i know which bolt yoall are talking about......its tripped me up once, when i did my first tranny 2 years ago....then recently on jeongs car.....good deal though, good luck with the project.
nissansr20nx 02-12-2007, 12:41 AM Yeah I think it is a 14mm bolt and it is in its own little sleeve! It is simple if you know it is there.
adio0102 02-12-2007, 02:28 AM ya i had that same problem,i think there was 4,good luck with it *** i bumed about for a while bewfore it found it..
