: SR20DET Performance
kidistight 05-21-2002, 11:45 AM Anyone who has the SR20DET, can you tell me what kind of performance you are getting from it, with no mods. Also if you have any track times that will be greatly appreciated. I am goin to do the swap, but I am just tryin to look ahead, for what kind of mods I will need to do. Also one last question, if you know of any aftermarket headers/exhaust, or will the SR20DE parts fit it also. Please if you have any info on the SR20DET please provide.
P.S. I have already looked online, so I have the facts on paper, I want personal expertise/experience on the topic.
SR20DEVIL(T) 05-21-2002, 02:40 PM First of all, with the DET you wont be using a header. As for the exhaust, 3" is reccommended at least from the downpipe back. I have noticed some clearance problems with using a 3" downpipe, so I am using a 2.5" (JGY made). I got my exhaust made by David Allen. If you search the forums you will find some pictures of this set-up. I will be getting mine friday. I have heard all good things about this set-up, its cheap too, under $500.
I don't have personal experience with my Avenir motor yet, but i should soon as the install is nearing completion. As far as the swap. It is very straight forward and simple. The reason it is taking me more time is because it is a side thing and I am doing much more than just swapping the engines.
Well I hope I helped, good luck with the swap if you end up doing it.
GDUBinVegas 11-29-2004, 01:01 PM what all goes into a aveneir install thats different from a BB...

bluebirddet 12-01-2004, 10:08 AM the avenir also has a ball bearing t25 as the u13 blue bird motor just has the stock t25 that is not ball bearing
NismoSER 12-01-2004, 11:22 AM Avenir has a slightly different exhaust manifold than the BB, it extends out a little farther from the block.

Headers are not used in sr20det's? can you elaborate please? sorry I dont know much about these and my sr20 is gonna be installed soon.
Witt19 12-02-2004, 12:12 AM what he's saying is, sr20det's have a turbo head flange which will not bolt up to a header flange because the header flange is n/a and will leak boost
liupj 12-02-2004, 12:14 AM turbo's dont use headers.
headers are used to collect exhaust gases and push out the ... well, exhaust system.
in turbo setup, the exhaust gases from the engine are put through a "turbo manifold", then the manifold is connected to the turbo and compressor.
then you have a downpipe.
then you have the cat converter, etc as normal.
Think of the primary on the header as the turbo manifold and turbo.
think of the secondary/flexpipe as the downpipe/flexpipe.

I think what he means is that Turbo Manifolds are not considered headers, but rather just manifolds. Turbo Manifolds are cut short and meet higher up to be able to fit the turbo. Here are some comparison pics.

Witt you forgot that the manifold bearing also wont clear the header bolts on the NA SR20, you need to swap to a GTi-R head for it to fit right also for the VVL.

Not all Avenir motors have ball bearing turbos.
G20Rida4Life 12-03-2004, 01:42 PM The Black Topped Avenirs Have Journal Bearing Turbos, Only The SIver Topped Have Ball-Bearing Turbos...

lol, stop it, you guys are going to confuse the fuck out of this guy.
you need to keep reading before you go and try to bolt a header onto your DET. why dont you just turbo your motor.
