I decided to do a compression check on my VET a couple of minuites ago since it was running like crap and I got the following numbers

cyl#1 160
cyl#2 105
cyl#3 150
cyl#4 120

oil added
cyl#1 270
cyl#2 135
cyl#3 200
cyl#4 165

The engine has 86.5mm CP pistons (9.5cr) and a stock VE valvetrian. The block is freshly built and has about 1000 miles on it.

I plan on doing a leakdown test tomorrow but what are your thoughts.

My first guess is a skipped tooth or a couple of bent valves.

Thanks in advance

prob bent valves. Unless you have aftermarket valve springs then could be something else. good luck.

Those numbers really seemed to go up when you added oil. Rings?

I dont think so...since the car was cold when i did the second compression test. I have CP pistons in their currently and I beleive the need to heat up to get an actuall reading

The head also failed a leakdown in cyl#2, only held 20% of 95psi. So I figured what the hell and installed my stock DE head. That head has less than 10% leakdown at 95psi.

Yeah...its fixed for about a week or so....Im rocking a DE head right now until I can strip down the head from my spare SR20VE.

I will be dropping my bad head at the machine shop tomorrow for them to take a look at it.

wow, so you ended up with bent valves? how high were you running? do you have a rev limiter?

I ran my VE stock to 8000rpm but I think my gauge may be off slightly. I had no rev limiter, but I didn't notice anything weird at all. Maybe I was just tempting fate huh? I will take a look at my head when I get it back. See if I can notice anything.

Coheed turn the whick down to 7500 and save yourself the trouble power falls off around 7100-7200 on the stock ve cams anyway.
