: Tire to Fender Rub... What to do?

In my past experience, i've noticed that when you lower your B13, sometimes, under harsh conditions, the rear tires will rub the 3/4 inch lip that runs on the inside of the fender.
What I did was remove the tire, take a hammer and rag, and carefully tapped the lip in.
I've found that some people have the piece cut. I guess some tire shops carry a tool that will cut the lip right off.

Im planning on lowering the car soon, and I'm looking into different options on how to go about this problem.

What have you guys done, when faced with this?
Or have you not experienced this.

just finished the CAI, and Greddy SP install last nite...
simple, and straight forward, I'm lovin it!:D

Do not cut the lip. It's a structural part of the body. If you whack it with a hammer to bend it up, expect to have both rear quarters painted cause the paint will crack.

I've been meaning to roll my rear fenders for 3 years now. I've seen positive results from the tool that Tire Rack loans out. I'm going to try it sometime this summer.

I've actually had my lip professionally "rolled". Even that when done carefully with the special tool will cause cracks in the paint on the lip itself. The cracks have not radiated higher. This helped the rubbing in 85% of circumstances, but it still happens occasionally.

I'm running 215/40/17 on 17X7 with 42 offset. My lip was 'rolled' by previous onwer, it chipped the paint. Even with the rolled lip they still contacted, the front side of the rear bumper cover. I took a dremel and carefully removed material, I got almost all of the scrub out of it. It still contacts the face side of the mud flap, I'm gonna let it keep rubbing till it removes the material on it's own. I sprayed undercoating on fender lip to prevent rust from chipping. (Please mask off your fender and such if you do this!!!! Don't ask how I know  )

My 205/50 15's rubbed on the tire sidewall even without lowering the car. I rolled the lip in with a plastic mallet. Some cracks in the paint but they are not visible without sticking your head inside the wheelwell. 2 years now and no rust or rubbing.

Ok try this:
Before you roll your inner fender lips.
Take Razor blade (hobby single edge style not the ones you shave with) and go under the car and look on the INSIDE edge of your fender where it forms the inner lip and single cut line on your fender lip 'cutting the paint".

Now since the cut is on the INSIDE no body will see this cutt.

roll your fenders (gently)and you SHOULD not crack your paint (on the outside).

When you "cut the paint" you are already cracking the paint but where you want it to crack. On the inside where nobody will see it!
the paint will stop streching at the crack instead of streching around to the outside of the lip(which causes those unsightly cracks) it worked great when I had my classic.

My good friend told me to try this. He did this to every Mustang and BMW he owns and he has no cracking paint!!!!!
This is only a suggestion there is no gurantee that it will work for you cause all paint jobs are different (and all the other legal jargon)
