: how much should our refund be?

My cousin and I purchased an SAFC II from a forum member a three weeks ago.
After installing the unit, the unit only gets a voltage reading of 8 volts, instead of 12v. When connected to the MAF signal wire [wired CORRECTLY] the car will not come out of limp mode. When the original path of the MAF wire is connected, the car runs and drives PERFECTLY. Having called Apexi, they told me to connect power wire straight to my battery to see if it will read 12volts, which it does not. Then they told me the unit is most likely busted. The wiring has been checked, double checked, its been checked by a number of knowledgeable people who verified that the wiring is correct.

I contacted the seller telling him that it doesnt work. He said he got it from a buddy of his and it was never installed in HIS car. So basically he is taking his buddy's word for it. My cousin and I NEED this safc unit for a project so if it was working properly I would not want to return it.

Now, we paid $154.50 including paypal fee SHIPPED to 11419. Granted it doesnt work, we are willing to pay return shipping to the seller. He however, wants me to basically take a loss on shipping both ways because he swears it works.

I requested a refund of $150 in my paypal and I would pay return shipping on my end. He said $137 is a fair amount because his buddy says it works.

I dont see how I should be losing money both ways here? I bough this unit with the intention that it works but obviously it doesnt. I dont know what happened from when it got out of his buddy's car to my house but IT DOESNT WORK.

I think me offering to pay return shipping is fair on my part as long as the seller will take the loss on shipping it to me.

Thoughts?

i think you should just take it or file a complain with paypal and they will refund the full amount. Also... You better do it soon or else you wont get anything back.. but yes i think you should have the full refund

did you miss the part about it not being wired incorrectly?

thanks guys. I paid on Feb 5th and I believe I have 30 days to file the claim right? If the seller refuses to refund me I will file a claim with paypal.

the unit could probably be fixed by apexi but why chance it? We would rather get our money back so we can buy another unit. We paid for what we thought would be an insstall and go kind of deal but its just been a headache.

The seller read my last PM at around 9:40 PM tonight but did not respond to me. If I dont hear from him and get a refund within the next day or two I will go thru paypal. I simply can not wait two weeks to get a refund [as stated by the seller].

I do understand that, maybe he actually thought it was a good unit, and he already spent the money, if it were me i would give him time to get he funds straight on the refund. Being a deadbeat buyer aggrivates everyone(not saying you are, because i would want my cash back also). If if were me i would wait untill the end of the week, and if i havent heard or received anything, i would go to paypal for my full refund. So to answer the first question, a full refund is in order for a no working unit. _peace

yea I realize that he said it was never installed in his car. I give him the benefit of doubt that it wasnt.

I would rather handle this with the seller and not go thru paypal because its really not necessary. As long as I get back what I paid, I will be happy.

I dont want to be the one getting jerked on this deal. I think me offering to pay the return shipping is a sign that im willing to work this out with the seller and not trying to play games.

However, I cant wait two weeks for him to sort out his finances because the dealine to file a claim with paypal will pass by then. I think giving him till mid week is fair.

The ball is in his court lets see how he handles the situation.

well I guess I will have to take this to payal.

for the record, the seller is 12.30se-r92. I PM'ed him again asking if he would return my $150. He said his buddy "assured" him that it was working and not to refund my money.

Thats some bullshit.

why would he have to refund anything? did he sell this item with warranty? I dought it. If he tells paypal and proves to paypal he sold a used item without warranty you will be SOL. buying used parts on the internet has its costs sometimes.

how does he know you didnt short it out?

how does he know you didnt drop the item?

how does he know you installed it properly?

yes it was a used item but if youre selling something are you going to bullshit someone and have them believe it works?? if it wasnt working he should have stated that. He never stated anywhere in his thread that it wasnt working properly.

how do I know he isnt making up info about his friend?
how do i know it wasnt busted before i installed it?

exactly.

Thats the chance you take buying used items that dont come with warranty. if you dont want to take the chacne then buy new items.

open it up and see if the cable is connected, i remember the SAFC 1 had this problem. In the inside, there is a little connector that connect the cables to the chip. maybe that is loose. Check it out.
