: lowering question...
I have a chance to lower my 200sx 2 inches, which i believe is perfect.. Does anyone have their car lowered that low? Do you have bad problems scrapping or anything? I just got my greddy exhaust and dont want to screw it up scraping it against the ground... I would love input, thanks guys
metro_se-r 05-25-2002, 04:17 AM oh yes, $65 for lowering springs including shipping is pretty cheap!:D
Benito Malito 05-25-2002, 10:04 AM Depends on your taste. Mine has a 1.5' drop, or even a little more. It's not comfy. Any more, and I would ride the bump stops all day.
Crono1321 05-25-2002, 01:41 PM I heard you have to get full camber kit if you lower your car two inches. My friend's integra was lowered two inches, he had to get one.
Katana200sx 05-25-2002, 11:48 PM i have ym car lowered 2" w/eibach sportline's. the ride is pretty rough compared to stock..especially over speed bumps. but you get use to the ride and after awhile the ride of a regular car felt odd to me. but i have no problem with dragging or scrapping.
sage3 05-26-2002, 01:05 AM I have my car around 2.5-3 inches. I have ground control so I'm not to sure on how low its is but for sure its lower than 2 inches. I scrap some my front sometimes but thats because I have the stillen kit. As for the exhaust you should be fine. I have the greddy exhaust and I havent scrapped it yet. But you might want to look into getting camber kits because you will be having camber problems for sure. Hope this helps:cool:
Crono1321 05-26-2002, 01:13 AM Sage you have the GTR bumper also?
DubuRX 05-26-2002, 07:54 AM I have my car lowered 2.25" and have had no problems with camber. It's toe you gotta worry about. Get your alignment done ASAP! I had some Toyo's for 18 months and had no problem.
Honda's seem to be worse with lowering. Mine is lowered about 3.5" and couldn't use a camber kit if i wanted. Honda likes to leave you with no fender well space!! I can't stick my finger between the inside of the fender and the tire, and i won't go into how bad the camber is... Just a good thing I have road hazard warranty!!
Benito Malito 05-26-2002, 02:18 PM "Honda's seem to be worse with lowering."
You must be kidding right? Hondas are reputedly better for big drops, because they have more travel. Our cars are notoriously difficult with lowering.
sage3 05-26-2002, 05:12 PM Yeah crono1321, I have the whole kit. I had it on for about a year or so now. I need to get it repainted soon. I keep lagging on putting some pix up. Hopefully I will have some pix up soon.
domiguy 05-26-2002, 08:45 PM Well I have a 2.0" drop in the front and 1.7" in the back (the back doesn't look like it came down that much though) and my car is fine. I also installed AGX struts/shocks. Yeah I feel the road more and stuff, but that is because these are stiffer springs (well I hope they are). I haven't had any trouble with with the bumper or any part of my car hitting the floor, I haven't bottomed out, I've travelled pretty fast and today I did an autocross with it... and I've been fine and dandy... but I know I have to get an alignment, as soon as I scrap up enough money I'll do it. Here's a [kinda bad] picture:

What I meant was... Honda's are worse when it comes to camber issues... My civic is considerably lower than my 200 and rides better!!! I was saying that I have no way to fix the camber on the civic unless I raise it up (no way I'm doing that) or cut up the fender well.
AznVirus 05-30-2002, 12:37 AM our cars are cursed with really bad rear suspension travel so therefore, according to Mike Kojima's article, you shouldnt lower your car any more than 1.5 inches. some ways to free up some travel is get the Koni bumpstops and the Motivational Engineering rear top mounting plates.
Sub_Function 05-31-2002, 02:13 AM I thought it is a must to get aftermarket struts before lowering 2 or more inches... are you tell me most of you are riding on OEM Struts with 2 or more inch drop??
I'd think it would buttom out like hell, unless you have bumper stops... correct or not..
I've been thinking of a 2 inch drop.. but man the cash for the struts is enough to make me spend else were... so tell me who has a drop on OEM struts... cause from what I here your basicly riding a skateboard...
Just wondering if this is myth or truth,
thanks
Sub.
friend Jason in town has a 97 SE-R dropped 2 inches with Intrax lowering springs, stock struts.. He said the ride isn't that bad like people say it is, he's had them like that for about 6 months. I've driven behind him, i didn't see him bouncing hardly @ all.. I know what you mean sometimes, when money is tight and you wanna make your car purty, totally understandable.

sure... you CAN use intrax on oem dampers. or, to save $$, you could just cut a couple coils off your stock springs. DON'T DO EITHER!

97 se-r lowered ~2" with moti's
99SENTRASER 05-31-2002, 12:27 PM let me just say...i got sick of the harsh ride with eibach sprtlines. i got used to it after a while, but the girls were always saying stuff about my car being bouncy. the good thing about it was seeing there booboeees bounce around once in a while but thats it. lowering will make your car more appealing to look at. also, depending on how many miles you have on your stuts, make plans to buy new ones.
my car is now on it's stock springs and i hate the way it looks raised up. also, i'm riding on 4 blown struts. i can't afford to buy new struts right now. also, your car will hadle like crap when it dropped that low on blown struts with no suspension travel. your car will tend to understeer easier.
thats my experience.
What is your setup for that?
Chris Garrison 06-07-2002, 11:02 AM i has mine lowered about 3 or 4 inches and all i did was just ride on the bump stops all day and that makes for really crapy handeling because once you are in a corner and you hit a bump then it just pushes your car up and then you dont have any traction because your cars weight just got pushed up and the tire that should be biting into the road is almost airborn. i wouldent recomend going any lower than 2 inches, just because your lowering the center of gravity dosent mean its going to handel better. happy lowriding!
