Take a look at the kits from Trust/Greddy and HKS for the engine you have, they give you a good idea of what to look at in terms of the optimum size intercooler. They do spend alot of time with R&D and have alot of experience. The cheaper kits usually are derived from those kits anyway.

this is true, but in comparison, a 2,000 dollar ic kit and a 300 dollar is kit, the numbers vary, but for the most part are almost identical.

You are absolutely right, I didnt want to give the impression that you should go out and by a HKS or Greddy cooler kit. The cheaper variants can sometimes be even better, and yeah because it costs more it dosent make it better either.

can i ask why you think this?

my understanding is that the made in china intercoolers dont hold a candle to a well designed spearco. even the ebayers talk about pressure drop

Does "china" or "ebay" hold alot of importance to you?, yes, I wont be suprised if you have had or a friend of yours, or a friend of a friend, or you have read somewhere on the internet.. that an instance where a specific spearco setup would have less pressure drop than a specific kit made in china bought from ebay. No suprise whatsoever. I am not saying all the cheaper priced kits are better, Im just saying you shouldnt just judge by brand and cost.

well it looks like you must be a professional engineer that works with intercoolers all day, since you are talking about my hobbist experiences like they are nothing. what do you do it is always good to see engineer and professionals on a mostly hobbists forum?

so you are saying that for the most part aside from rare instances, that ebays china intercoolers are on par or are better than spearco cores? would it be better in general to judge by cost first and then brand?

32x12x3 will require a lot of cutting. I wouldnt go that big unless your tryingto make 450+

I had one and it looked like this.

believe whatever makes you happy^

i bought one of ebay a while ago, i figure how can you mess up something as simple as a brick, well they did it.

the intercooler i bought had specs listed, but there is NO WAY IN HELL that the intercooler i got was making the same numbers. the reason there was a nice big .25 in gap that didn't get welded on the inside of the core. i really doubt any of those numbers on any core are real. that said this intercooler had a different end tanks than most of use here use, but still if everything else for our cars that ebay sells is shit and fake (turbos bovs fstb and so on) why do we think their intercoolers are any different. everyone needs to realize this stuff is cheaper for good reason, its because all they care about is selling a product and making money.
