: help needed !!!
radiobar 05-25-2002, 12:53 PM hi !
i hope that somebody can help me.....
driving my GTI-R today i realized that something is wrong,
suddenly the car didnt accept gas.....so i stopped....car had
perfect idle, but giving gas had nearly no effect,as i floored
it,rpm rised from 900 to 1500,fall back to 900,rised to 1500
and so on.....i floored it for about 20 seconds,it was always the
same.......i was standing there for about 2 minutes, nothing
special happend,no smoke,perfect idle,all meters ok.....
i floored it few times, but it was always the same...
then i turned engine off, restarted it and everything was
nice again,no problems.....
this happened for the second time now,but first time
it was ok after about 20 seconds without turning engine off....
you should know that i have this every morning after night,
but it is ok after about 10 seconds(longer in winter),
cars runs at about 1400,giving gas - rpm drops down instead
of going up !!!
for me it was ok in the morning because there were no
problems at all.....but now it seems to happen when
i drive it....so its not funny anymore......
i remember one day in winter(after night),i floored it for about
10 seconds and there was no reaction, car was
idling at about 1400 and nothing happened....
i think that this problem is getting worse now,
so i need to solve it now..... thanks...
any ideas ??
bye.
Katana200sx 05-25-2002, 11:38 PM have you checked your trottle cable? or trottle body?
Crono1321 05-26-2002, 01:22 AM I agree. Check the throttle body, throttle position sensor, and maf....although I'm sure about the latter of the three. My mom's buick was idleing really bad and wouldn't accept gas very well, and she took it to the dealership. Her TPS had gotten bumped around and was reading stuff wrong, giving her too much/too little air for the fuel it was being provided with. Im not a pro mechanic but I hope this helps!
radiobar 05-26-2002, 05:07 AM hi !
i have no problems with the car at all,
it runs perfect, boost is ok,no heat
problems...i had a ride on highway last
week,nonstop 220-230 km/h for over 1 hour,
and nothing happened............
i had it only 2 times.....i was unable to drive
anywhere, because rpm did not go over 1500....
when idling i floored it for about 20 seconds,
and rpm was just jumping from 900 to 1500....
i will ground the maf today, can i ground it direct to
the battery??
thanks...
bye.
Crono1321 05-26-2002, 01:47 PM Um, I'm not that great at electrical, so don't go on my answer completely, but I would suggest not doing that...as there must be a reason we always have to ground to something other than the battery...again, I would ask someone else to clarify this problem. Did you figure out the problem was the MAF or is this still just speculation?
radiobar 05-26-2002, 02:20 PM hi !
well....i dont know if it the maf......i think its
something else, because car is running perfect
all the time....i need to find somebody who had
exactly the same problem.....
bye.
SteveB 05-26-2002, 02:29 PM It sounds like the TPS may be intermittent. When you get your problem it's probably reading full throttle due to a high voltage reading so it could be an open circuit earth connection at the TPS. It may even be the connector needs cleaning, try switch cleaner in the connector and also run into the shaft of the TPS.
Another thing, was the problem just after starting up. If so then it could be a partly blocked petrol filter or low battery. There seems to be some problem then if fuel is injected before the fuel rail pressure is up and things never seem to get going properly, especially if the battery is a bit low and the engine doesn't spin up as fast as normal. I've had this happen a few times and I'm sure there's no real fault, it's just 'one of those SR20DE things'. It's always OK once you charge the battery and try again, given a good condition petrol filter.
radiobar 05-26-2002, 03:42 PM hi !
thanks...i will have a look at tps....
but if tps is the problem, why did it appear
only twice ??? and car is ok at all.....
i have a new battery and fuel filter.......
thanks
bye.
radiobar 05-28-2002, 08:19 AM hi !
thanks for your help...i still cant find
what the problem is,but i found out when
it appears.....
it comes up after car was standing and idling for longer
time, like in a traffic jam or similar....
today i had to help out somebody with my battery,so
my car was idling for longer time, then i wanted to go
and it appeared....
now i tried it at home......i was standing at idle for
about 5 minutes....nothing special happened,perfect
idle, all meters ok......then i tried to rise rpm,and it stopped
at about 1400......its the same if you give smooth throttle
or floor it....rpm just jumps from 900 to about 1400 and drops again,
if you hold throttle it jumps up and down...
i tried to drive at about 1300 rpm in second gear ,after about 10-20
seconds i could go to 2000 rpm,few seconds later it was ok
again...
any ideas ??
thanks...
bye.
radiobar 05-30-2002, 02:23 PM hi !
today i found out that my problem appears
always after car is idling for 5 minutes,i tried it
for about 4-5 times.....its always exactly after 5 minutes...
then i tried to hold it at 2000 rpm....after 5 minutes throttle
was gone and it was the same again, rpm just jumps from 900-1500
if give throttle....
so i think its not a heat problem, because holding car at 2000 problem
schould appear faster......
i also disconnected the maf,so car was idling at about 600,i could
rise it over 2000 without problems, after exactly 5 minutes the effect
appeared again....
turning off the engine and restarting it after few seconds - problem is gone....
when you restart it right after turning it off the effect is still there.....
