If you are running Metal Masters it may be normal. Mine do that too. I stopped obsessing over little stuff now. I got used to it.

Yeah, but at this point, your probably going to have to change your rotors too. Also, your calipers may be shot, the piston may not go back in being its pushed out so far now.

Basically what it sounds like is that your brake pads are so worn out that you dont even have any brake pad material left and your grinding metal on metal.

Seriously, change them ASAP as kbslacker said, and dont drive unless you absolutely have to.

I have the same sounds as 95se-R, 95% of the time coming to a stop I hear a scraping sound coming from the front. Sometimes it's so bad that you can feel it through the pedal.

But the thing is upon inspection my front brake pads are still in good condition and not warn down. Also there is no difference in stopping power. It seems to me like something wrong with the drivetrain.

my 95 se-r does that too.. I went to a shop to get my brake inspected and they told me that i still have over 60% left on my brake. Its confusing... I have not tried to replace my pads yet because they told me they are still ok. Any idea how to fixed this? The sound is really noticeable specially braking in cold weather.

i just dont feel like shelling out ~$300 for new brakes. should i go stock OEM brakes or ad22vf? i dont have much money to spare for expensive aftermarket stuff.

Well that depends, what do you use your car for? I mean, do you autocross or take it on the track? If so then get the ad22vf brakes. If not, then just get stock with some good pads.

If you are talking about the first 4-5 brake applications in the morning, or whenever you first start the car, then I have to think that it's the following: The first few stops in the morning your pads are very cold and everything is real stiff. Not to mention that some SLIGHT rust has built up on the rotor surface. Once you use the brakes 2-3 times, the pads scrape the rust right off of the rotor surface and you don't hear it until the next first start of the day.

I am convinced this is the problem as I had it happen on both of my Maximas and now the SE-R I have. I have also experienced it on several Amercian cars as well.

Just a suggestion---but if it only happens upon the first movement of the car, I would suspect that it's somewhat *normal.*

I have a 97 se-r and have the same exact problem. i have tried posting about it before, but no one responded. I swear, its something messed up. it sounds like it;s coming from the rear right corner. i checked my brakes and their 100% as far as calipers/rotors/pads go. i just bought the car 2 mths. ago. the brake dust collector aren'r rubbing agaionst anything, unless when i brake something is forced them into the rotor or something. seriously, though, we have to figure out what is making this noise. it's shamefel to have such a nice car but are embarassed to brake.......

oh, and by the way, it happens all the time whenever i brake, not when their just cold or anything. all the time.

the noise is everytime i brake, so apparantly something is wrong. it is rather embarrasing to brake too, gets loud when i come to a stop, i have to use my ebrake to slow down to not use my front brakes as much.

This problem is very interesting to find out. I went to my local shop again today to get my brake checked. Hes exact words "Your brakes are still good. Explain to me what kind of noises are you hearing". I could not explain it to him rather than just something scraping my rotor. I let him drove my car for about five minutes around the block or something and he said that.. he did not hear shit or anything. Could this be cause by something in suspension maybe rubbing something.. confusing i dont know. If you guys find out let me know real quick.

as you can see i have a '99 with 60k miles on it.
A few weeks ago i drove home (600 miles) and had my dad check my breaks for me, the outter pad was fine and so was the rotor, upon further inspection of taking the rotor and caliper off he found that the inner pad was gone and so was the rotor. I never do heavy braking nor autoxing and it was oem pads. The front are toast.

I have a set of rebuilt calipers from the NX coming my way now.

moral...make sure you are checking both sides of the caliper!!!!

I have checked both brake pads on all 4 corners of thew car. the have like 1/2 in. of pad left. Nothing visually is rubbing AT ALL. WTF is going on?
ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

Mine does it espically when the brakes are warmed up. I have new calipers, rotors, and pads. I even cleaned the sliding pins and regreased them. Still scrapes. What ya gonna do? As long as it stops on a dime who cares?

Also - who is or isn't using the stock "shims" on the pads - I've had all the nissans I've done missing them when I do a brake job and make noise like mad until I order them.... None of the parts places ever have them and I have to shell out decent money to courtesy that sucks....
