I have a 99 Infiniti G20T and the guy at Autozone told me it has a P1706 (Manufacturer Transmission Control) or something..any ideas on what this is? I searched, but the only thing I could find is Automatics throw the P1706 sometimes and I have a 5 speed. Is it ok if I drive like this? I might get a job soon and can't afford to have this car break down on the way to or from work.
Thanks guys!

P1706 -P/N switch/circuit
When the gear position is "P" (A/T models only) or "N", park/neutral position (PNP) switch is "ON" .
ECM detects the park/neutral position when continuity with ground exists.
..since you have a 5spd its your neutral postion switch
when its in neutral it should have continuity, when its in gear it shoudn't

Thanks for the info.! But I was wondering if this is something that I would have to replace right away? and if this is something I might be able to do myself?
Thanks for the help!

you tell me, does the car shift and drive OK? I never had one go bad but I don't think it does much to effect the drive-ability of the car.
here's a picture

Yeah, I saw that picture and I think I can see it, but I think it'll be a pain to replace..and yeah the car drives and shifts smoothly..seems to accelerate fine too..both of the autoparts stores I've been to don't carry the part though. Time to search online! Thanks for your help!

Bump for more info...the dealer has the part for about $20, but they said labor would be $200!!! is the Park/Neutral Position Switch easy to replace or will I need to adjust it? Also, will by P1706 code go away after replacing it? or can it be something else that's wrong?
Thanks for any help!
