Alright Im still new to the SE-R havent had mine long. But im seeing that you can get a decent little hp increase from just a timing change. What is the safest amount of timing that I can run on 91 octane being that I live in Albuquerque NM and that is all they have at the gas stations here. By the way my car is a 92 and has 130,000k on the odometer I dont think it has ever had the timing messed with to be honest with you.

17 degrees is the general rule from what i've heard and used. Anything more on that octane will hurt more than help. If you go more than the engine will start to knock and the computer will try to adjust for it, which means you will loose more power than you had before you started.
Someone else jump in if I'm wrong.

I would recommend 19 degrees.
Why?
2 reasons
149hp for me
147hp for PlanoSER
Thats with i/h/e
If you hear knocking just back it up. Thats it. Real simple.

So somewhere between 17 and 19 degrees but I dont know about this 91 octane. I might have to try that soon. Nothing is better than free hp.

I would personally not go past 17 for the simple reason that you cannot trust the gas stations on the octane ratings. Usually 19 is for 92 or 93 octane from what I've heard, but like I said, I could be wrong. Plus some people get low on cash and find it necessary to run a tank of lower octane for a couple of days, which could really mess you up. 19 is just pushing the envelope a little to much for me, but if your that kinda guy and you wanna play with it then i say go for it.

My 10:1 Compression JDM motor detonated at 19 degrees on the dyno, we backed it off to 17 and it was fine (this was on 91)
