What are the differences between a Pulsar GTI-R and a Blubird motor?

GTi-R has bigger turbo, more throttle bodies, beefier rods, lower compression, bigger oil squirters, roller rockers, stronger block, more power (227 vs. 205), and is a little harder to put in than the BB motor.

If you want easy power, go w/ the BB motor. If you want to be different and have a little more power, I'd suggest the GTi-R motor. But then again, I might be a little biast toward that choice! :D

is it true hat most of the parts from an BB motor are swappable with us spec sr20de's while some parts from the GTI-r aren't ?

About 95% of the BB motor is swappable w/ the USDM one. Almost nothing on the GTi-R motor is, but you can always rig! :D

so if i want higher output with less availability of parts(and the hard core gti-r name) then go with the GTI-r

but if i want something that i can work on for cheap with lower initial output go with a BB....

how do heavily modified versions of each engine stand up to eachother?

do BB's need alot more work to get the same power as a gti-r can get with cheaper mods?

because of the pistons, oil squirters, roller rocker motor etc. are the gti-r's able to reach a higher HP ceiling so to speak?

If I were you I would look for a Nissan Avenir SR20DET (1)Because it is alot newer being that all SR20DET Avenir engines started production in 1996 (2) It has the same horsepower rateing as the GTI-R 227hp (3) If you look for one they have silver valve cover. (4) If you get very lucky and see one with a black valve cover that is a 1998 and above SR20DET AWD I know not to many have seen this being that 1998 is pretty new.

If you want to find out more info on this motor just go into the search I posted a lot of good info this.

Does anyone know anymore info about this avenir SR20DET, like a website or something?? How difficult is it to get these motors. What car is it in?

I belive the helpfull search option is still working and can give you answers. These questions are asked just about every week so you will find more results than you will need.

Good questions Xsanity, questions I'd like to know the answers to as well. I'm probably just retarded but for some reason when I go to the Archive, which is where Charlie2020's post on the silver top SR20DET is supposed to be according to the search, yet when you go in there nothing shows up. So I don't know why the Archive lists 5 threads being in there when there isn't jack. I would suppose an Avenir SR20DET would cost quite a bit more than the abundant and affordable BB SR20DET. The only reason I asked about GTI-R is because I was thinking of buying GTI-Rookie's car but he never mails me back or pm's me so I don't know. I also looked at that clean Classic from the SE-R classifieds and that guy hasn't mailed me back either. When I want an SE-R I can't find one and when I do the owner doesn't respond.

Would you believe the car they come from is the .... Avenir?

They are readily available. Soko and other engine importers have them. I got mine from JGY, number is (540) 379-1848, hes located in VA. Jasons a good guy. His Avenir prices run $1700 for the engine (not including shipping), $175 for the down pipe, $500 (and core and shipping) for the JWT ecu (if JWT _ever_ freakin' gets them done, but that another story :)). Just remember these engines do not come with an intercooler (Forge makes a real pretty one, I believe Louis is carrying these now).

Nissan Japan has put out press releases stating the turbo (T-25) with these is a ball-bearing unit. However the one that came with mine is not (as indicated by Rob Cadle). Mine is a silver top, possibly its the newer ones that come with this turbo (black top?), who knows. Also the manifold on the Avenir is different than on the old Bluebird DET. It looks suspiciously similair to a GTI-R manifold.

Well for some reason I can't access that page with the info on the silver top motor. But I can tell you one thing. I might be changing my screename to Matt4Avenir

so this avenir engine we are talking about here, are the parts for it interchangable with the parts for a usdm sr20de? if so, i might need to start giving it a look see

mechanical lifters...so it has the ability to rev higher (no limitations that come with the hydrolic lifters).
also,
why doesn't the avenir det come with an intercooler?

Because stock it uses a front mount intercooler. When the importer in Japan pulls the engines, they pull the intercooler seperatley. They then sell these seperatley. AFAIK the only way to get the intercooler with the engine is to buy a whole clip ($$$). You _might_ get lucky and a place like soko might a) happen to have some and b) know that they go with this engine... but the Forge IC is real purty. :D

Yes just as much as the Bluebird parts are interchangable except the Avenir is a newer engine and comes with a internal coil and is rated at 226 hp probably do to it's unique turbo manifold as it resembles the GTI-R manifold and just a newer T25 assembled with newer improved parts and yet to be determend ball bearing center section, so I have heard the only way you can really tell if it's ball bearing is to take it apart or compare it to another T25 non ball bearing Bluebird turbo and measure the outside diameter of the center section witchever is bigger is the ball bearing T25.

One other thing the 1998 and newer Avenir diffenitly come with ball bearing center section Nissan released that info but still has the same rating as the 1996-1997 Avenir 226 hp. I believe the black top AWD SR20DET is the 1998- Avenir engine when I went to purchase my Avenir SR20DET back in September 2001 I seen a black top AWD SR20DET and everything looked the same as the silver top SR20DET same turbo manifold, internal coil factory front mount IC ect... IMHO the Avenir is the better buy if you can get your hands on one I paid $1,500.00 for mine just engine no computer.
